Would anyone be interested in a weekly game on IRC? I'm looking for players and/or potential GMs, but I can GM in a pinch. I'm just desperate for some regular Trek roleplay.
I'm looking at Thursdays starting at 7PM EST.

Well I would be interested in hearing a pitch... I would like to try playing in such a game :)
Star Trek: Revelations
Genre: TNG/DS9
Specific time: late 2377
It has been two years since the conclusion of the Dominion War. The Federation, resources stretched thin from the taxing conflict, now looks to resume its original mission: Exploration, contact with new life, and the mutual growth and development of all sentient species. However, there are those that feel this attack against the Federation is not the last. The Federation is weakened, and has grown too fat and encompassing. The other interstellar empires smell blood in the water, and it is the Federation that is wounded.
An Ambassador-class ship, the USS Valdemar, was heavily damaged during the Breen assault on Earth. The Valdemar, visiting Utopia Planitia for several minor refits, was mobilized to assist the ships bolstering the remainder of the Third Fleet. After valiantly defending a civilian transport that was caught in a crossfire, the Valdemar took a direct hit to the saucer section, destroying Deck 1 as well.
The Starfleet general order to retire Ambassador-class ships that were heavily damaged due to the Dominion War was lobbied against by a certain Vice Admiral Jonathan D. Ward, one of the Valdemar's previous captains. The Valdemar was repaired, refitted, and restaffed.
And her new Captain is Daniel G. Ward, nephew of Admiral Ward.
The USS Valdemar's final five year mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out life and new civilizations; and to provide Admiral Ward a liason ship along the anti-spinward edge of the Federation to monitor the former Alpha Quadrant allies of the Dominion.
Interesting.
So basically a series with individual episdoes and maybe some over connecting story arcs?
A few questions.
1] Are PCs the Department Heads?
2] Why that name?
3] How many players?
4] Any chance on biweekly instead of weekly?
More to come I am sure :)
Yes, there will definitely be an overconnecting story, or even stories. :) I don't run games any other way.Quote:

They can be, if they so wish. I'll accept any feasable application. Also, I'll run things troupe-style, so that people can have bridge crew and/or department heads in addition to lower-ranked (or even enlisted) crew, so that they're not left hanging in the wings if the episode focus isn't on them.Quote:

Several "Revelations" are going to be made throughout the story arc. One of which is that the Federation is in a state of negative growth, but most economists are already predicting that.Quote:
2] Why that name?
I'll accept up to five players. With a maximum of three characters each, that should prove to be a plentiful-sized cast. :)Quote:
3] How many players?
Possibly. It depends on what the consensus is.Quote:

Anyone else interested in this?
Apparently not. This makes me a sad panda. :(
I am interested, but am not sure just how much time I can apply to this between now and New Years.Quote:

Not to worry. If anything, we'd be hashing out characters from now until New Years. You and Zimmer are the only two that have expressed interest, so there's no rush to get started.Quote:

I am interested in playing. I just got back from a 3 month cruise to South America. I won't be gone out anytime soon for any major deployments.
Okay questions time :)
1] When is the game set?
2] Where is the game set?
3] Are there any special house rules or canon changes?
4] How do you feel?
I wouldn't mind playing, Rune, if you'll have me. You know my hours pretty well.
I make no promises about joining up BTW, I am curious, but not %100.
Just so we are on the same page :)
Oh and I see that my questions have already been answered. :)

What channel would you be looking to use for this here game?
Sorry about the inactivity lately, folks. I've been in training for my new job in New Jersey and I haven't had reliable and/or consistent web access.
So far, my list of potentials looks like:
Zymmer
Thierry
Anomaly
Sawyer? :)
Sawyer, it'd be on any IRC channel we want. That's the cool thing about IRC; you can just make a channel and *poof* it's all yours. :-)Quote:

When are you looking to play time and day. Any information will be useful like the area and starship starbase.
I am jsut curious because I am interested.
I will not be available on Tuesday, Friday or Saturday. Other than that, I'm game. USA Central time for me... -6 GMT I think.Quote:

Will this be pre-gen characters or roll-your-own?
The games will be potentially on Thursday nights, at 7PM EST. I will leave character ideas and submissions to yourselves. Here's an update of what I'm looking for.
Submit up to three 200 word summaries of your character ideas. Race, general personality, rank, specialization, some interesting history tidbits. I will approve all, some, or none. The game will be run in troupe-style play.
Submit one department head or bridge officer character, rank of Lieutenant or higher. Characters may not be ranked higher than Commander, and the only position I'll accept as Commander is First Officer. The other two submissions may not be higher in rank than Lieutenant or Chief Petty Officer. Try to avoid overlaying your characters' skillsets too much. Also, one character in your submissions must be human; another of the Federation core worlds; and the last can be something "interesting" if you so desire.
Scroll back in the replies for basic setting. My email address is askrabut@hotmail.com; identify yourself by your TrekRPG.net handle as well as send your submissions. Any further questions about the setting, fire them off here and I'll try to address them.
I've never used IRC--just ICQ--and I'm an old FASA Trek player (I don't have any LUG rule books unfortunately). However, I'm interested. You can even give me a pre-written character.
To get familiar with IRC, go to www.mirc.com. mIRC is the leading IRC client for Windows. Basically, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. Your client connects to a server, and information gets relayed back and forth between servers to facilitate a (usually) seamless chat.
If you're interested, Eric, you can come up with three concepts like how I outlined in a previous post, and email them to me, if you like.
I would be interested too, however it seems you have your five players, can you squeeze me in?
Normally, I won't be available on weekends, except for the odd occasion.
Well, so far only one person has emailed me even the barest bones of character concepts, so, in fact, if you sent me something, you'd only be #2. :)
It would be Thursday nights, starting around 6 or 7 PM EST... very rarely would I run something on a weekend.
I'm working on them. Got the stats made up, working on the backgrounds now. In between family/holiday visits...Quote:

What date are you looking to actually start and what type of campaign so I can work on a character. I was thinking of a Rapid Response Pilot with 1 tour under his belt who is 1/4 vulcan and 3/4 human.
I'm ready to start whenever my players get their act together and submit characters to me.
Thierry, that's just fine, but you will need to submit more than one character concept to me as we'll be running troupe style. Not every Trek episode is suitable for every character, and a Rapid Response Pilot won't be usable in, say, an episode revolving around a medical epidemic.
Rather than keep you waiting, I don't have the time right now, so I will have to stay out. But if I have a free night I would like to come and watch if that would be allowed?
Please define "troupe style".Quote:

Zymmer: That's no problem. You, and anyone else, is more than welcome to drop by when we're playing, just to watch.
Sawyer: Troupe play is when each player has two or three characters of varying fields and ranks, so that during certain episodes when one of your characters is especially suitable, but the others may not, you can switch characters. Also, you can switch characters mid-episode if the story (and GM, me) allows for it.
XP you earn will apply to the character you use during the episode. If you use multiple characters (and do it well) the XP you earn will likely be increased by one, and you can split the XP any way you wish to both characters.
So far, I've only received submissions from one person. That person is working on a First Officer type as one of his characters. I won't accept any character based on first-come first-serve; rather, two of the three characters you submit I will accept based on quality and uniqueness of the background.
Some notes for writing up your sheets:
1) I use the old hardcover rules for Promotion. Cumulative:
+1 Lieutenant, JG
+2 Lieutenant
+3 Lieutenant Commander
+4 Commander
Thus, a Commander would require Promotion +10.
2) Home-brew Overlays
I have no problem if you use home-brew Overlays for your characters, just as long as you submit the Overlays for me to examine. I also have no problem with you desigining characters via points rather than Overlays; just do your bookkeeping and show what is purchased during each section. IE, points need to balance up to 10 for your First Tour, 8 points for Academy Life, etc.
3) Number of Tours
The only Promotion I'll allow without any additional Tours is Lieutenant JG. If you want to have a higher rank, you'll need additional Tours. Be reasonable; The average length of a Tour is 4 years. If you have 4 Tours of 2 years at 5 points each, that's a little unbalancing for another character that takes 3 Tours totalling 18 years. Be fair, be nice, and have background explanations, and everything should be okay.
4) Advantages and Disadvantages
Like I said earlier, as long as your math adds up from Overlay to Overlay, you can go nuts. Just keep them to a sane minimum.
Any other questions, feel free to ask here, or drop me an email.
I take it, that using skills, from the player's guide are acceptable?
Yes, quite acceptable. Any LUG product already has my 100% endorsement for content. Any homebrew stuff will require my approval, although I don't forsee any problems.Quote:

I don't think I will be able to participate either. My apologies, Uruz. Good luck with it.
Currently, I've got Sawyer and Thierry working on characters, but what I'd like to know is, are there any more takers for Thursday night games from 7PM till whenever, EST?
I won't run a game without at least three or four players. Just so y'all know.
(psst to Sawyer and Thierry, recruit more people!)
Have you and your group selected an RPG group to join or have you decided to remain independent?
What do you mean by "RPG Group?"
A fleetQuote:

What the person is asking whether of not you were goin to connect your IRC game to one of the various "Fleets" that exist, such as Tango Fleet or (hack-spit) Bravo Fleet.
These groups are fan-fiction role-playing groups who do not use LUGTrek rules or even other sort, nor do they have a GM, per se. In the cases I have seen and/or contacted, each player can post actions for their character and other Player's character, in addition to NPC. This concept is way outside the rules-based rpg which LUGTrek, D&D and other games are run.
To answer the question, I would venture to say "independent".
p.s. been down with the flu last four days. I'll get those updated characters to you real soon.
Actually I'm putting together an RPG group that is based more on LugTreks style than the others. Some information on it can be found at www.trekbbs.com under gaming
I will have 2 characters finished by tonight, what date are you looking to start.
