Yes! Another "name your fav top 3 ST ship" poll!

This time I'd like to know what are your favorite Star Trek ship designs; it can be ANY ship that ever appeared on screen, from any era.

Honorable mentions can cover non-canon ships I guess.

I'll start :

1-D'deridex Warbird. Very unusual concept; looks like a menacing giant bird-of-prey, Every time one appeared in a scene on TNG it would really rise the tension level. In that sense it is a very dramatic ship.

2-Galaxy class. For its elegant and fluid lines. At first I hated it but it has grown on me vastly.

3-K'tinga class as seen in the early movies. I don't know... it just looks so "Klingon" to me.

Honorable mention to the Sovereign-class for its sheer coolness and to the Ferengi Marauder (another Probert design) for its original design.

Gotta go with the D'Deridex as number one...

Akira -- I really like the slit-tail hull.

Constitution refit -- Still remember everyone in the theater sighing when they showed Big E the first time in ST:TMP.

Hmmm....favourite 3?

1. Intrepid class - love the sleek, almost starfighter lines and the variable geometry warp nacelles.


2. Sovereign class - simply sensational!


3. D'deridex class - big, green and mean! :)

Well in no particular order (I just can't decide), my three favourite ship classes are the Intrepid, the Constitution (TMP refit) and the Galaxy class.

Honourable mention goes to the original pre-refit Constitution class.

I have to agree. The K'tinga is by far my favourite Klingon vessel. And it does have that certain Klingon 'feel' to it.

The first image that pops into my mind at the word "starship" is NCC-1701 (no bloody ABCDE). Yeah, a lot of the effects were cheesy way back then, but when DS9 Trials and Tribble-ations showed what a Constitution was supposed to look like, that was a magical moment.

The refit Constitutions are nice, too, although I don't care for the warp nacelles. The first time I saw those, I wondered where they had found the Klingon warp drive.

Sovereigns are sleek, graceful, and high-tech, but they don't have a neck connecting the primary and secondary hulls. Being an old Constitution fan, I think a starship ought to have a neck.

Ambassadors are way cool in a retro kind of way. They seem to share the design aesthetics of the Constitutions. Certainly not cutting edge, but attractive in a '57 Chevy kind of way.

I never cared for the Galaxy class. That huge, wide saucer makes it look out of balance. Rearrange very similar components to build a Nebula, though, and you have a nice looking ship.

Honorable mention Miranda Class and Connie Refit.

1) Galaxy Class - somehow had a noble and elegant design which made her majestically.

2) Constitution-Class refit - looked great but also not as modern as the 'new' ships, was somehow pioneer like in my point of view.

3) Akira Class - sleek design and cool look


4) Sovereign-Class - deinitely a great design, somehow a revival of the old TMP look of the Enterprise.

5) Defiant-Class - tough litle ship ;)

6) Steamrunner-Class: actually its pretty ugly, but its simply nostalgy, cause I had a two year campaign on the good old USS Ranger :)

1. Constitution-refit: A starship centered around a decent production budget that symbolized all that the original series Star Trek movies were all about. It stands for a wonderous era and is a aesthetic definition of its time. She is the shining example of Starfleet's bravery and irresolute purpose.

2. Galaxy: The most noble of all Starfleet vessels. A true tall ship with all the sweep and elegance of an advanced society both inside and out. She's a testament to the Federation's diplomatic ideal and Starfleet's mandate for exploration.

3. Defiant: Low, performance profile. Spartan interior. A ship with a serious business-like demeanor ready to do her duty at the drop of a hat. She flies around larger space craft like they were lumbering boulders, but outmatches their tactical capabilities in nearly all ways. She puts the steel in the spine of Starfleet and keeps her cubs safe and warm while stalwartly foraying out into the winters of the galaxy.

1. Constitution-refit -- sleek, sexy. No two ways about it. As I grew up on TOS reruns and seeing every ST Movie from I-VI in the theater as it came out, nothing beats the movie Enterprise.

2. Sovereign-class -- IMO, TNG finally got it right with this one. This is the best Enterprise since the first six movies. :)

3. Any ship from the PDD. Saber is first choice, Steamrunner is a very close second...man they look sleek. Besides, I'm a fan of the little boys, the ones that will never become the Federation's flagship, but have as much heart as their big brothers.

IMO, the Galaxy-class looks too much like a luxury liner to really catch my eye...it's too...80s.

Honorable mention goes to the Klingon D-7 (the ultimate bad guy) and the original Klingon Bird of Prey. :)

1) ENTERPRISE NX-01 (The design's grown on me).
2) TOS ENTERPRISE (Trials and Tribblations showed you just how much of a ass-kicking design the NCC-1701 really is).
3) REFIT EXCELSIOR.

For me its...
1) Norway class
2) Steamrunner class
3) Akira class
Yup I know all are dedicated warships but thats how my campaign is set up.

Favorite is the orginal Enterprise, especially as seen in "Trials and Tribbleations". The ST:TMP refit was beautifully done and there's no need for me to use up another one of my choices for it since they were same ship! :D

The Enterprise-E is a runner-up. Not because it's "kewl" but I like how you can trace it's lineage to the original Enterprise.

I'm in a minority, but I always got a kick out of the Excelsior design. Thought it was the neatest thing when I saw Star Trek III.


Depite Dan Gurden's hatred of honorable mentions, I'll throw them in...

Others I really like include the Enterprise-C, Romulan Bird of Prey, NX-01.

For some reason I've never been too crazy about the Enterprise-D - when TNG came out it looked too obviously like a model to me. Though it's not my favorite design, I really appreciate how detailed the Voyager model is.

They still make good explorers. the Steamrunner was orginally designed for diplomatic missions in dangerous territory (unofficial info.) All good ships and favourites of mine as well.

I can't really explain why, but the first time I saw "Emissary" and saw the Runabouts, I was hooked. The design, the versatility, whatever, that design hooked me.

Next would be the Galaxy-class. Many of you grew up with TOS and the original Constitution, but "my" Enterprise will always be the "D." And my longest running Trek campaign was based on a Galaxy, so I'm just a tad biased. :D

Third fave...the Bajoran solar-sail vessel from the DS9 episode, "The Explorers." I"m a sucker for historical nautical fiction, and this ship "spoke" to me. :)

1.) Galaxy - best there is, best there was and the best there ever will be
2.) Bird of Prey - i love the movable wings - very cool idea
3.) D'deridex - one word = impressive (remember the episode " We are back!"
4.) Akira - just cool
5.) Steamrunner - Don't know what it is what i like, but i like it
6.) Borg Cube - simple, very odd design - funny
