Chat with Don Mappin and Doug Burke this Sunday!

Hello everyone!

In a great gesture from both of the guys, Don Mappin and Doug Burke, writers for the upcoming Star Trek Roleplaying Game books by Decipher, have accepted to participate on an online chat this very Sunday April 14th at 6 PM United States CST. That should be 12 AM GMT.

The chat will take place on the #TrekRPG channel on the MagicStar roleplaying IRC server.

On mIRC (or other IRC client) choose MagicStar as your server, or type /server irc.magicstar.net, then choose #TrekRPG as your channel, or type /join #TrekRPG.

Alternatively, you can chat by going directly to the MagicStar webpage on www.magicstar.net , and then choosing 'Chat NOW!'. Put your nickname and type TrekRPG as your channel.

Well, the funny thing is I got the dates mixed up and actually was sitting around for the chat last Sunday. I am such an idiot at times. :D

Just as clarification, Doug Burke was a playtester and is the current NetRep—he was not a contributing author. Neither of us are Decipher employees.

I’m planning to speak on design considerations and answer specific rules/mechanics questions, Doug can iterate Decipher comments (and take back your own comments) and also answer rules questions. (Tag team!) :D

For the other Euro guys and gals:

The good Dr. is a little mistaken regarding the GMT time. 6PM CST is in fact 12PM GMT (midnight in the night of 14th to 15th), as Europe is ahead of the USA.

I was not mistaken, Lancer. 12 AM is midnight for me, and 12 PM is noon.

It's not like I thought Australia and Austria are the same country ;)

I've added a Java web-based IRC client to TrekRPGNet today. You can find it above on the menu bar blinking. It's a surprisingly small and powerful client that will automatically connect you to Magicstar and the #TrekRPG channel.

I ran into a limit too when I tried to enter through trek-rpg.net. When I went in through mIrc I was fine.

Darn. It never occurred to me to just go to Magicstar and go in that way.

Turns out Magicstar doesn't allow more than 4 connections from an IP to prevent spoofing (a wise precaution). Unfortunately the relay app for the Java client used TrekRPGNet's IP for every connection, meaning only the first 4 people using the client were able to connect. (It's not my fault!) :)

I'm going to see about trying to reconfigure both to pass along the client IP. If I can't do that I might have to switch to another chat client that will. :(

Transcript will go up as soon as I get a clean copy with the unnecessary bits removed (joins/leaves/spamming) and hopefully with the answers immediately following the questions. It was chaos there for some bits.

It was fun! :)

And we had a real spammer/flamer dude that Dr. Jonas Bashir wiped out ever so elegantly. :D

Yep, Dr Jonas Bashir, Super-Moderator saved the day. :)

Actually, let's give credit to the one who deserves it. My co-op, Anarchy Bob, was the one with the Quick Draw (+2) advantage. He was quick enough to prevent more damage to flow (by moderating the channel with +m).

And let's thank MagicStar's flood restrictions, too. They were automatically banned at their 4th flooding line. :D

Will you be able to create characters with previous non-SF and have them join SF?

For example, an Elaysian who spent 7 years programming the shell on Gemworld joins SF as a computer sciences officer? :)
