Romulan Client States

The Way of D'era says that there are alot of Client Races in the Romulan Empire, in fact it further says that the non-Romulans can gain citizenship by fulfilling the Serona (Warriorship, 5 years duty with the military) and than undergoing the Pylanazi (Citizenship):

These are some present and past Clients that I have found. Does anyone know of anymore or have created anymore?

Since these clients can become citizens would they be on Romulan Space ships?

I would say yes. However, I would expect a very strong glass ceiling (glass? how about transparent aluminum!), with most non-Romulan citizens consigned to lower ranks, backwater postings, and/or low-security assignments. I certainly wouldn't be showing non-Romulan ship commanders or full-fledged Tal Shiar operatives, and non-Romulan department heads are probably a one-in-a-thousand proposition.

Yep. That certainly was a human on a frontline Romulan vessel. An exStarfleet defector no less, what kind of security checks must he have gone through to get there. Which also raises the possibility of Vulcan defectors?

I can see the Romulans being a little more racist in their front line. Using the Star Wars, Empire as a model. The vast majority of their navy will be Romulan, and any client species will be relegated to either support roles or canon fodder. Imagine squads of Nausican shock-troops... Most commonly non-romulans on Front line vessels will be 'similar' to Romulan, or offer a great leap in ability that is otherwise unavailable. (ie; Starfleet defectors as Tactical advisors). And entirely unheard of in the senior naval command structure...

But like the Empire, a Highly skilled individual could rise beyond the limits set by his species, such as Grand Admiral Thrawn... Becoming more powreful than many of their contemparys by the diffiult climb up there.

And lets also not forget that we alsonow have the Remans as a potential client world (dependig on the new movie).

In addition to the Galactic Empire model (which I think is a good one for regulars in the Romulan armed forces), one could adapt the Roman auxiliary model from the early empire: shock-troop or other "expendable" or "low-utility" units made up of client species under native command and organization. I have the thought of using that kind of military clientization in a game to give the Romulans a lasting presence without having constant Neutral Zone incursions going on. I just haven't decided whether I want to use Nausicaans for this or develop a new client species for the role.

Speak for yourself. AFAIC a Reman is a Romulan from Remus. Not some Nosferotu reject.;)

A new reptilian type race would work well...It's what I use, they make great shock troopers/boarding parties etc. The Roman auxilia idea is the way to go, where the subject race
(may) rise to the rank of NCO but where all commissioned officers would be Romulan.

Do you have a write up on the Reptilian Race? I am trying to get my Romulan alittle more diverse than just romulans.

I agree that the Client races would be auxilery or second class, but there would be a need for a larger base to recruit from than just the Romulans.

I am the XO of the AQSG Romulan Division, the CO of the Federatiopn Simm Group, New/ just forming, and an avide Romulan Fan. I would like to see some other PBeM's and Groups and find out how they operate.

Off the top of my head, that looks like details from Way of D'era, Fragile Peace and Planets of the UFP...

Does that list include the proto-Klingons from the unreleased material from Steve Kenson, or anything from the Romulan SRM (Steve L always puts a species or two in them...)

From a rules based POV, as most of this stuff is already published, you would need to be careful about what you use. You could probably link the species names with the location of the published material, but I am not sure you could re-print what has gone before. Nothing stopping you from adding to it mind.

Would it be copy write infringment if I gave LUG credit for the material? It isn't copy write infringment if I use vulcans in my web based pbem campaign???

I just want to try to show the general public that there is more races than just Romulan in the Star Empire. I will not claim credit for anything. I will use the same format as a few other pages and have it written as: Canon, Backstage info, Book Info (LUG or Novels), or Speculation.

The info I now have does come from LUG-the Way of D'era, Fragile Peace and Planets of the UFP.

I will look at the other sources for any more races and give credit where it is due. The Othan are the Proto Klingons from Way of De'ra.

From my understanding (but I am not a lawyer) it is not a copyright infringement to use this material for your own personal use... But it would be to publish it.

So using Vulcan in your PBEM is fine, but copying the stats and printed material verbatum from either Way of Kohlinar, Core Rule Books or Players Guide would be...

However notifying the reader where this material was available from is a totally different matter (and in my mind qualifies as free advertising)... I am not sure where all this lies now that the LUG stuff is all out of print.

A thought about the Zelvorians. I’ve been reading the Way of D’Era that I recently acquired. I found no description of the Zelvorians. This made me think that perhaps the “Remans” of Nemesis could be adapted to be that subject race. Their original culture lost a long time ago they were shaped by the Romulans to suit Romulan needs, what do you think?

That would add credit to the WAy of De'ra and make it closer to Canon. The name differances could be the old name "Zelvorians" verses the new romulan given name "Remans"...

Well I don’t have much information about them, really. But I remember to see a thread here that gave some explanation about them. It was provided by Dan Gurden. Attention! Be warned that it includes spoilers about Nemesis You can find it here

I also think that, to a certain extent, we can harmonize discrepancies between cannon and the Way of D’era. If we consider that the movie is done under the perspective the Federation, then not all information given in the movie is necessarily true. After all, Romulans like to keep their business private, and misdirection is as likely to be used as simple and plain concealment of the truth.

Where are the Zelvorians from?

I have Way of D'era-where are some of these other LUG client races coming from?

As to the Remans-so far the info from the official site is the best there is for them. However their use as ground troops in the Dominion war does establish a canon existence of client species-so the Empire is becoming one slowly in the canon world:)

Would you like more client races outside of LUG/CODA?

The PC Game ST TNG "Final Unity" had Garidians (Looked like Romulans but with white hair)

Also HHirl is suppose to be Romulan for Proud Male. It is the name I use for my main Romulan Character in the PBeM's I play in. I have developed a complete family history and now even play some of HHirl's sisters in a few other PBeM's

Well being a long time collector of all things Romulan-I got to searching through it all to see if I could find some more potential "client races"

From the FASA Romulan sourcebook-colonised star systems section:

Gorwah
Named for the local word for the native race, this planet was the first on which Romulans encountered intelligent life. The reptillian Gorwah, though physically hardy like the Gorn they somewhat resemble, were technologically unprepared for the Romulans and became the first Romulan subject race.

Now, the Gorwah work the mines, bringing out raw radioactive ores from places the Romulans themselves could never reach. The Gorwah metabolism is resistant, but not totally immune, to long-term, low-level radiation poisoning.

The Gorwah never leave their home planet, as several experiments with exporting Gorwah laborers to oother mining worlds met with failure; the Gorwah metabolism needs certain trace elements found only in their own ecosystem, and they die soon if moved elsewhere.
