Aside from the very brief tidbits that Don has fed us, there's just the announcement on the release schedule on the Decipher website.
Personally, I'm also really looking forward to the book, but the LE is effectively done (same content as the Core Books, with the Enterprise Sourcebook added on), and the Narrator's Guide is very important to Narrators (like me). The Starship Ops book looks like it will be an excellent resource. The Personal Log, like all character sheet booklets, should always be one of the first products out.
Besides, Starships expects to be the first of (what I call) the four major sourcebooks to be published. What else could you want?
Patience, Cadet. :D
Just remember that not everyone runs a Star Trek game like you do. ("You" being the reader, not Space Cadet.)
Some need the book now, some need the aliens book now, and some desperately want the planets book and the slew of plot ideas. In a perfect world, they'd all be available right now. (Actually, they're all pretty much written, I believe.)
Sadly, we do not live in a perfect world.
I developed the Star Trek: Starships Sourcebook, and I think Don Mappin and Dave Biggins did a great job. I think you're all going to be very happy with it. In addition to a first chapter that expands the construction system with all kinds of new technologies and options, there are dozens of starships ranging from Starfleet to Klingons to Jem'Hadar to generic ships. It was intended to be the definitive resource for starships (though we could do a lot more).
As I understand it, the book is currently in approvals at Viacom.
I am looking forward to it.
I just hope it is out on time, I want to tell my wife to get it for my birthday, which is on Oct 31st.
I know this is a silly fear of mine, but I have learnt to never take anything for granted-I hope the Romulans are in this book!
Hey Don...
A question.
Well two actually...
1] Will Quantum Slipstream and other types of expiremental propulsion be in the Starships book?
2] What about all that advanced tech from Endgame?
Thanks in advance :)

No. I went way over on word count as it was and didn't get to do everything that I'd like. (Starships Vol 2?) Hopefully the book will sell real well (I think it will), a sequel will find its way on next year's schedule, and I'll get a phone call.Quote:

Until then I will just have to use my own stats. Let's see...
transphasic torpedoes... penetration 10000000000000
sectional armour.... strength... (what is the key code for an infinity symbol?)
:D
To the best of my knowledge Starships is going through the approval process right now.
As Ross mentioned, the ability to supplement the book depends upon how well it does. (So everybody buy a copy.)
Even if there's not a supplemental book (Starships vol 2 or whatever), we'll probably supplement some things on the website, like the replicative armor and some of the ships that couldn't fit. I just used the Starships draft copy to work up the rules for the New Orleans-class ship (since that's what I use in the series here at the office), so that may show up on our website as a "freebie" around the time that the Starships book hits the bookshelves.
Of course, if we DO have the go-ahead for a supplemental book, we already know who to call!
Jess.
I wanna do more faction-specific items. There weren't enough Romulan components, for example, for my tastes. Plus I want more Romulan-specific maneuvers and traits, all with cool names that just ooze and scream "Romulan!" to the reader. After "Starships" we've got Starfleet covered pretty damn well now.
The next "Starships" books should (IMO) be era- or quadrant-specific with less of a Starfleet slant. Another large book with tons of Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Tholian, Breen, and Ferengi stuff with components and maneuvers custom-suited to those species. Really funky stuff. Then you do the same for the Delta Quadrant, for example. (I, of course, see endless possibilities there!)
If faction (alien) books ever make a return that'd also be another place to put these items. Imagine reading a big write-up on the Breen and towards the end, in a sidebar, are five Breen-specific maneuvers and three Breen-specific starship traits. Then in the Kazon section you find the same. Or the Tholian write-up. ;)
Series-specific would be another route. If we ever do a Voyager book, as an example, I'd love to do a chapter on the Kazon, the different sects, their maneuvers, Trabe components, etc, etc. Same with the Hirogen, Species 8472, Voth, Krenim, Viidians, etc.
I see lots of potential to take the entire starship construction and combat system into almost as a line of its own. I feel the products need to go further. We talk about "tool oriented" and "crunchy bits"--well, here are some really easy crunchy bits that are begging to be used. I'd also like to do the same as Wizards and duplicate where necessary. A Breen write-up that references Breen maneuvers reprints those maneuvers--put what the reader needs in front of them (within reason). Shouldn't have to flip through five products to make your ship. :)
Oh well. Sorry for the tangent. Just thinking of some of the possibilities!
I hear they taste alot like pancakes...then again so do flapjacks...mmm this requires some research...Quote:

Thats another one of my (very off topic) weird international type questions....Do they have "International House of Pancakes" outside of the US (and yes I've seen plenty of "International" companies that don't exist outside of the US)? Being that pancakes are called different things in different places...
Ok...I'll stop that now....
:D
I don't need this kind of crepe. :pQuote:

I hope it has complete starships (the main ones ) from each race (Fed, Klingons, Romulans, etc.).. I'd be kinda disappointed if they miss out a starship. By the way, will it include (i hate to use this word) but non-Canon starships? Like for example, in FASA Trek, they had game designer made starships.Quote:

How about an early freebie? :DQuote:

btw, a starship sourcebook would definitly sell with gamers of this game. Its pretty much a must for Star Trek. :)
If I'm gonna put up a few freebies, they should probably help "whet the appetite" for the book -- which means about the time it hits stores, not a couple months earlier. I will ask, however, and see if our guys are copacetic with it!

Hear, hear, Don! I'm 100% with everything you say here.Quote:

I hereby nominate Don to be Decipher's official starship grand poobah!

Don,
I agree with all you have typed here, but your comments on Romulans have added to to my unfounded paranoia-Please tell the Roms get a fair showing in this up coming Starships book..
I mean enough that a Romulan campaign can survive without it being "Theres another D'Deridex Warbird" or "Gee the 100th Klingon D7 in Rom service" cry from players:)
Don
If you ever do do (he said do-do) the Voyager book, please don't forget my favorite species ships, the night beings from "Night" :)
Thanks
Now if only we could get Wiz Kids and Decipher to team up and make Star Trek Hero Clicks for ships :)
Pancakes are pancakes here too. :)Quote:

I don't recall ever seeing an International House of Pancakes here in the UK.
On the same subject the World Series isn't. :)
Now back to Starship stuff...
Tell ya what, bud, I was the monkey that hammered out the stuff for the Romulan ships. Proportionally speaking, they got a good showing :)Quote:

Will the images be colored on black like in the NG or will they be easire to see? (HHO1/2K)
I know you want to prevent people stealing them, but the colors make the details hard to see. Maybe the images could be bigger, and still remain coloured on black?
Just curious and hopeful :)
Just checking. Is England still "Merry Old England" or is it just "Plain Old England" these days...no offense intended to anyone's "National Pride".Quote:

the more i hear about this book the more im interested! :D
soo will there be original ships?
what about 'support ships'?
cutaways/cross sections?
where will stuff on starbases, space stations, outposts and shuttlecraft be put?
:)
Hi Dave Biggins (Good Monkey:)
Thanks for that-
Can you give me any hints-like did you include anything at all from Nemesis-Is there a small "Starbird" type ship?
I realise I'm being a bad monkey asking this but I must know!:)
Well I can rest easier knowing the Star Empire will have a diverse fleet.
Is this Starship book just a listing of ships or is there more to it such as what was found in LUG's Space Dock? I am more interested in advaced space combat rules and a more comprehensive damage system with more attention based on the direction. I loved Space Dock but thought the random roll for hit location a bit annoying sometime.
Anyway, I am still looking forward to this book and will be buying it.
My understanding is that it included three parts: a collection of ships to use in your campaigns, lots of new parts to add to your ships, and revised ship construction rules.Quote:

I think it has been stated several times that the RPG system (even post-Starship Book) will not be the tactical level system used by Spacedock.
Yep, there's lots of nifty new stuff in the Starships book, including an expansion on the Starship Creation rules. :)
:D :D HOORAY!!:D :DQuote:

I look forward to disecting and commenting on everything that bothers me...I mean...uh...I will be looking through it and perhaps quietly making highly optional suggestions...now please put down the shotgun and the dull butter knife.
Nemesis? Just how much juice do you think I have? Heck, I haven't even seen the trailer yet. ;)Quote:

I covered all the eras of Trek (at least the Romulan side) for you and kept as much to canon as possible. I'm not sure if I can list them out without breaking the NDA .
If there are any canon buffs out there, let me assure you that I am one too. When working up the stats for the ships, there were four references I used in order of priority:
1. What I saw on the screen
2. What ye olde Star Trek Encyclopedia told me
3. What they told me in those Pocket Books
4. Old LUG Material (minus anything that would constitute copyright infringement).
In my section, there are some homages to past posters here as well: not as much of one as was given to another poster in a LUGTrek adventure that appeared in Game Trader, but there are two posters here who appear in some shape or form in my section (editor willing).
I second that motion!Quote:

Um... Then again, maybe I don't need another addiction... ;)
"Now if only we could get Wiz Kids and Decipher to team up and make Star Trek Hero Clicks for ships"
Please God, no. I know Decipher made its rise to the top by virtue of CCGs, but if this happens, I'll end up with a fleet of Nebula and Oberth class ships and have to pay some pimply-faced 30yr. old geek (who lives in his mother's basement) half of my rent money to get a Connie, Galaxy, Defiant, Intrepid or Soverign. Or I could wait five years and get them for 50 cents on eBay.
I, personally would rather see miniatures along the lines of what FASA had done for its Trek game and/or Star Fleet Battles minis (which I'm using for my TOS-era game until something better comes along).
Lest I become the latest target of flamers, I have this to say: These are my biased and personal opinions. If they offend your delicate sensibilities, then simply ignore me.
I would like to see a nice line of miniatures for the newer series come out. For that matter bring back some of the old ones. If anything print up carboard box figures like in Renegade legion.Quote:

Unfortunately the paint job(s) on the Hero-Clix stuff is not worth the money, otherwise I'd be running superhero fights left and right. I hear those guys (WHIZ-KIDS?) are going to put out other Hero Groups (DC, Amalgam...etc...) so you can see if Batman could beat the %^#$ out of Judge Dread and The Punisher or if they'll bury him in the 'ole Batmobile.
Although the idea of "Starship-Clix" would be kinda cool...how badly can you screw up the paint-job of the Enterprise (no bloody A,B,C,D...or E)? I would only invest money in that if they...a)didn't randomize what you get...AND b)if they put out the Akira Class. I don't care if they're to scale with each other...primarilly because the Borg-Clix would be f@*#king huge compared to anything else. You'd also have to be able to modify the Clix dials because there are going to be guys who build a ship that looks like the Enterprise-A but has the firepower/shields of the Enterprise-E...and don't tell me you don't have at least one person in your gaming group like that.
I think "Merry Old England" is what Yank tourists believe they are visiting when they come here. :)Quote:

Although around here (NYC) we're now "The city that never sleeps 'cause we have good reason not to...wanna make something of it?" Its very hard to fit that on a bumper sticker. I hear that we may be changing the image on the licesnce plates from the Statue of Liberty to a giant middle finger...I've always thought it should be the Statue with a baseball bat with the new state motto of "You gotta problem?" at the bottom. That's just me.:D
[Moderator Hat on]
I suspect talk of merry old England and other locales would be more appopriate in the general chat are. ;)
Sorry couldn't resist
That's why the bumper sticker was shortened to " Welcome to NY, NOW LEAVE!"Quote:
