A new Federation?

I am thinking of making a new Federation that can be used as an antagonist or protaganist alignment. Now it will not be Federation two with all the same worlds. It will be a new organization. It will beor all to use and possible I can come out with a netbook. Here is the question:

I suck at naming, What would you name this "Federation"?

I will develop new races, technology, ships, etc as soon as I have a names. Any help will be appreciated:D Also if any of you want to develop this "" Please post it here aswell. It will be like a trek-rpg.net "federation"

I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are you looking to start a campaign in an area outside the established Star Trek universe, or a government bordering one of the current major/minor powers? Or are you looking to replace the current United Federation of Planets with a different style of government?

It's summer and sometimes the use of words escapes me...

It would be a totally different government. It is like the current UFOP but would be somewhere unexplored. My campaign that I might incorporate this into is a Federation games, so the new "Federation type group" would be new and never heard of before. Theyw ould have multiple governments and races that have inorporated one government. Similar to the UFOP but not the UFOP. Hope this helps, ig not then I will rewrite this again.

Well, the name of the government depends entirely on the style of government you would want (and wether or not you want the name to be menacing).

Interstellar monarchy?

To be honest, I normally figure out the specifics of the race and government before I start looking at names. Once you have an idea of the people and leaders of the planet/system/group of systems, the government's name seems to jump out at you.

What it sounds like to me is a new group within the Star Trek universe.. if yes then decide how it came to be.. if no then I will shut up now..

That makes sense about waiting to name it...now I need skilled Trek designers for CODA RPG to unite! and make cool new technolgy for the "New Federation" Here are some beginning thoughts:

Democratic Government/similar to the Federation with different morales and ideas. Obviously since it is not the UFOP.

Tech Level: Minimum (like haveing warp drive in the Federation), would be somehwere between 10 close to the Federation but maybe slightly better.

I am still working out the details. All ideas are accepted. Maybe I will start working on some ships/weapons/special technologies later today depending on what you guys come up with...

No name

4 Core Races. (Covertness, Technolically Advanced, Militant, Spiritual, are the four main cultural parts of the four different core races. This Federation will be made up of all the alien races that you guys and gals come up with!:cool:

Okay, here's an idea for the Militant race:

Species Name: Kanoru

This species of bipedal dog evolved in a vast highland region of a temperate planet in the Omicron 20 system. They achieved civilization about 8,000 years ago, organizing into small permanent encampments in the highland valleys before spreading into the southern flatlands. They took to the seas early in their history, colonizing the Seven Islands, the continents of Garfaglia and Raowouph, and the Thamaunt Archipelagoes.

The Kanoru eventually organized into a dozen Great Clans, and the early history of the Twelve was bloody indeed, as the Alpha Leaders of each clan vied for supremacy. For nearly two millenia, bloodshed and warfare was a way of life for the Kanoru, until the charismatic Alpha Leader for Clan Garascho, Asthrel Dhar, forged a peace treaty that would eventually unite the clans under one rule.

The Grand Alliance of the Twelve Clans is in its 997th year. The Kanoru broke the light-speed barrier 112 years ago, and was one of the founding members of the Federation.

Kanoru clans are organized into a pseudo-military structure that follows along family lines. Each member knows his or her place, and movement up or down in the heirarchy is strictly controlled via rigorous physical, academic and psychological tests. (The specifics of each test, for each level within the clan, regional, continental or Grand Alliance governments, are strictly codified in Dhar's Tenets of Alliance. Prior to Asthrel Dhar's treaty, ascension within clan ranks was often determined by combat, sometimes to the death. Trial by combat has been outlawed in the Alliance.)

Clan and family ties are so strong with Kanoru, that they often serve together in the star service. In fact, almost all Grand Alliance Navy ships are crewed entirely by members of the same clan. While Kanoru do serve in the Federation Navy, most remain with their clanmates in the GAN. Kanoru serving in the FN seem to relate to their shipmates as their "adopted" clan.

(I'll get the Coda stats out for the Kanoru when I get them written up. :) )

Just some short notes for you to elaborate on if you like.

Technologically advanced race

This is old and clichqued but what mess with the classics. The Trelarons are advanced cyberneticists and geneticists. For centuries they've been breeding (with genetic engineering) Trelarons for specific tasks mostly scientific types but of course they have your usual worker class and warriors to defend their society from outsiders.

The Trelaron cyberneticists have also mastered the sentient-machine interface and most Trelarons are able to link with their computers and technology but they have balked at full man-machine implants. Cybernetic enhancements are more or less unnecessary due to their mastery of genetic engineering.

They have truly sentient computers but the processing power of such machines mean that they are restricted to starbases, ground stations and some of the fleet's larger vessels (say about the size of a Romulan Deridex-class warbird). Experiments suggest that a 'psionic' computer is possible but they've yet to actually build one.

The Trelaron are ruled by a council of nine members all elected from their various 'classes'. 4 scientists, 3 workers and 2 warriors. They are inherently pacifistic but they are known to fight wars when absolutely necessary. They're fleet (and hence your new 'Federation') is powerful, say a generation above that of the Federation.

Weapons are missiles fired by gravactic drives which fire them at near light speed backed by powerful gravactic beams which can penetrate the current Federation shield technology and even ablative armour. The Trelarons possess a 'sunkiller' experimental bomb that can cause a star to go nova but thus far they refuse to release it to the rest of the 'federation'. Only a unanimous vote of their ruling council can commit the Trelarons to use the 'sunkiller'.

Hand weapons are gravactic beam guns which fire hypervelocity darts. The velocity of the darts can be controlled so finely that the darts can either stun of kill. No disintergation is possible.

The Trelarons tend to be insular, they mix with outsiders but usually prefer to stay at home within the 3 planets they control. So they are not well represented in their star nation's 'starfleet'. Those who join are mainly in the technical and scientific divisions.

Warriors by law must remain in the home systems except in times of war. The 'Federation' can federalise the Trelaron home fleet and defence forces but only for a limited period of 6 months and the Trelaron council can declare a state of 'home emergency' restricting only a third of fleet/defence forces for federal service.

I actually had a similar idea a while ago inspired by someone`s ideas here on the board on the Netheri Imperium. What I did was a parody of the Federation, all the virtues are reversed and the Feds vices are now virtuous.

The look and style was taken from the StarWars movies, big giant battleships controlled by the primary race with slave races serving menial tasks. I also took the Gothic games (Games Workshop) battleships for the main vessels of the line, like the Sovereign.

Everything else is reversed to make a mirror to what the real Federation has.

In my humble opinion I do not envision the new Federation as being a mirror, it should just be another organization that has different/similar ideals. I have almost completed one of the four core races. Although this will be extemely detailed.

Kanoru

Personality: The Kanoru are a militant, but noble, race of bipedal Doberman-like humanoids. Highly social and communal, they form the social backbone of {the Federation}.

Physical Description: Kanoru are bipedal canines that stand about the same as humans, but weigh a little more. The bodies are covered with short fur, colored black and brown, giving them the appearance of Terran Doberman Pinschers. It is extremely difficult to visually tell two Kanoru apart; Kanoru themselves rely on their keen sense of smell to discern one from another. Karnou ears, like their Doberman counterparts, are naturally floppy. Adolescent males and females get their ears clipped in a coming-of-age ritual upon their 15th birthday.

Homeworld: Kanorus is a large, warm, Earth-like world in the Omicron 20 system.

Culture: Kanoru culture is listed in my last two posts. I shouldn't need to repeat it here.

Language: Kanoran (also known as Arunic), {Federation Standard}

Common Names: Kanoru place their given name first, and their family name second. Most Kanoru use their clan name in place of their family name.

Clan Names: Arel, Bakrava, Garascho, Gooranth, Hadaos, Kathal, Modur, Oovast, Radaphal, Roosh, Taldas, Yaloo

Male Names: Asthrel, Daran, Geroo, Hoshan, Marood, Stes, Thaar, Yoodar

Female Names: Baval, Dasthre, Edro, Karal, Oosya, Ropha, Thana

Favored Profession: Diplomat, Soldier, Starship Officer (any type). Kanoru excel in professions where large groups routinely work together.

Species Adjustments: +1 Perception, -1 Presence

Species Abilities

Pack Mentality: Kanoru are highly social creatures, and work extremely well with beings they are familiar with (usually family and clan mates). Many Kanoru in the star service adopt their company/shipmates as their "pack." As such, when working within their pack/clan/family, Kanoru receive a +1 to all combined tests. Likewise, when forcibly separated from their pack (wether isolated or outcast), Kanoru suffer the effects of the flaw Easily Distracted.

Tracking Scent: For the Kanoru, their sense of smell is almost as important as their vision. They can tell exact direction and approximate distance of a particular substance or creature, and can identify individuals by their unique odors.

Ultrasonic Hearing: Kanoru can hear frequencies well above the range of other species. Kanoru soldiers are trained to issue basic commands at ultrasonic frequencies in combat, where only their compatriots can hear.

Everydog: Kanoru fur coloring doesn't vary much from individual to individual, and beings who rely on sight for recognition cannot tell them apart. As such, Kanoru benefit from the Everyman edge.

Heirarchy: Kanoru pseudo-military social structure is highly regimented , and each member of the race knows his place and responsibilities the family, clan, and government. A Kanoru with a high position in the Grand Heirarchy (measured by Renown) can exert influence under lesser Kanoru, call upon aid from his family or clan, or even sway the judgement of an Alpha Leader. This abilitiy mirrors that of Klingon Honor, Cardassian Vesala and Romulan Glory.

Endurance: Like their four-legged counterparts, ancient Kanoru relied more on stamina than speed when hunting, wearing their prey down before closing for the kill. Modern Kanoru exhibit the same endurance, and receive a +2 bonus to their Stamina.

Personality: The Magroki are generally a polite race during first contact or meetings. They have a very short temper and can get very mean when something is out of "order". Beings obsessed with "Order" would not wish to "become enraged," since rage is emotional disorder. Perhaps it just makes them increasingly uncomfortable until they boil over.


Militarism... hm... for discipline, certainly, but war itself is very messy and disorderly business... unless they've found a way to handle war cleanly and efficiently.

How pathologic is this order fixation? Do they go berserk if you redecorate their quarters? If their potatoes touch their steak? If your kid knocks over his block tower in front of them?

Although war is messy they believe it is necessary to preserve order among themselves and other races. They are not that fixated upon order that they get angry about a block tower or potatoes touching their steak. Almost but not quite.;)

You might find this slightly internesting.

Another possible aspect of the Kanoru that might be worth consideration is children, with how dedicated they are to family I think orphan would be an unheared of concept.

You could have quite a few aliens living as Kanoru because the Karonu adopted them.

Hostage fostering might be a part of the culture as well.

Since this seems to be evolving into peace via power coalition . . . what about lesser races that have been 'absorbed' into service for the stronger ones, or who have joined rather then be attacked or for the mutual defense aspect?

I finally decided on a name, the INTERSTELLAR EMPIRE.

I keep remembering a phrase from Babylon 5.. "Leave the part about being very religious in.. it Always scares up images of fanatics..." Londo to Vir...
