Still in shock. words fail my emotion. NASA has confirmed the loss.
Oh no. :( :( :( :( :( :(
May the crew rest in peace, and my prayers turn to their families.
For the second time in my life this morning I was asked "what Happen?" and had to answer "The Space Shuttle blew up".
I can't think of anything adequate to say.
Rick D. Husband
William C. McCool
Michael P. Anderson
David M. Brown
Kalpana Chawla
Laurel Clark
Ilan Ramon
My prayers for them and their families.
Chello.
I am saddened once again by a disaster in space.
I woke up at 8 to call my job and my wife felt our windows shake...
I', listening to the news reports and two of the astonauts were Texans. Since there will be no remains found, it seems to me that the soil of Texas has been hallowed once again by the blood of Her native sons.

May they rest in Peace!
God help their Lost Souls!!
God rest their souls, and may He bring comfort to their families.
Words fail me....
This really says something about the Shuttle program effectivity rate. If they're spending money on these things, they'd better do it with responsibility; either do it very well, or spend the money on more important stuff.Quote:

Quite a blow for the Shuttle program. Close to KO now.
Today our collective dream turned into a nightmare. My heart goes out to the family a freinds of the brave crew. As we mourn the lost of the valiant let us not think of the dark cloud that now surround the journey but think of the great future that lies ahead. Let us not end the dream.

In the words of filksinger Jodan Kare, singing about Challenger, "And they passed from us to glory, riding fire in the sky." Must go dry my eyes again...
If we weren't spending so much money on crap like the Osprey and the Ground Based Common Sensor, on the lazy and indigent, or loosing billions of bucks from our leaking federal government we might have been able to replace these old ladies BEFORE this stuff happens. We put up our best and brightest on these things, for frig's sake...
A bunch of us were just talking about how we were due for a new shuttle disaster around Christmas...
it is has been 17 years sense the last man/woman was lost in a space related accicdent, this brings the total count to 17 men and women, 3 in Appolo One, 7 on Challenger, and now, 7 on Columbia.
My prayers to all the Families that have lost love ones this day.:(
With this news there will be many who once again call for an end to manned space flights.
My heart is heavy at the loss of the brave men and women, but I would be even more saddened if their deaths ended the great hope of space.
I must go and gather my heart and thoughts now.
Peace be with them. Peace be with you all.

We should not let this be a call to end the Space program. We should make this a call to give NASA what it needs to continue and then some.
Oh, my God... and they performed a ceremony in memory of those who died onboard Challenger just before returning.
It is far too sad for words. Iīm devastated.

May we mourn today, but never stop looking toward the stars.

I watched the NASA Press Conference on CNN a little while ago. I just can't believe this has happened again.
Brave people, who gave their lives for the betterment of us all.
Wow.
And just last week was the anniversary of the Challenger explosion.
May their souls rest in peace.
My condolences to the crew of STS-107, Space Shuttle Columbia.
May the stars shine bright
for these brave and daring souls
who bridged earth ever closer to heaven.

I thought I was going to have a good day...lose for words here...
Let their names ring through history as the Heros they are.
Good-bye Columbia, and God speed to her valiant crew.
Let us not forget that other nation's have had a loss here.
Ilan Ramon, Israeli payload speciallist. First Israeli in space. Son of Holocuat survivors. Many felt he and his mission was a positive symbol for Israel during this time of violence. He took with him a drawling drawn by a young boy in a concentration camp.
Kalpana Chawla, mission specialist, Born in India emigrated to the US in 1980. Became a Aerospace engineer. Choosen for the space program in 1994.
They joined together with the Americans in a mission of peace.
Rick Husband, Flight Commander. Airforce colonel from Texas. Baritone in a barbershop quartet and sang in church choirs.
William McCool, Columbia's pilot. Navy test pilot from Texas,
Michael Anderson, Payload commander. Ltcol. Airforce. Was on Mir in 1998. A Star Trek and Sci fi fan.
David Brown, Mission Specialist, Navy Captian, Medical Doctor, Jet pilot, and a circus acrobat.
Laurel Clark, Mission specialist. Naval officer, Doctor both as Diving Medical officer on subs and a flight medical officer for Naval aviators. became an astronaut in 1996.
The friends and families of the deceased have all my sympathies.
Yet again, words fail me. Printable words, anyhow.
How anyone could rejoice in this news is beyond me.
The Star
A steady shine with holy grace,
Marvellous like an angelīs smiling face,
Bringing hope to those who are desperate,
Helping us the right way to get.
Not only freedom, but eternity
Is in us if its noble light we see.
Not bright enough to blend your eyes,
But strong enough to fortitude let rise.
There is an old dream to travel to the stars,
But we know this true fellows are as far as
You can imagine or even beyond.
For millions of years they exist
And I hope that they will miss
Us if we are once no more.

I cannot say anything else. I feel pain for those who lost their lives and can only wish strength to their loved ones. I hope that they will someday overcome their pain and manage to remember the good times with their killed family members, rather than today's catastrophe.
It is no loss for the US alone, but a loss for the whole world - we lost seven of us today who boldly went up into the sky, and were not allowed to return home again. I cannot say anymore - yet what I said describes not nearly the pain I feel - how bad are their loved ones feeling?
OMFG
Words fail me when I heard of this only moments ago.
Because they're sick, twisted psycohpaths. :mad:Quote:

Sorry not feeling very liberal or understanding today. Still, let's try and remember this isn't about those people, and we should simply try and ignore their sickness. Today should be about mourning this loss, but also about celebrating the lives of the brave crew of the Columbia, people who may have lost their lives, but at least they mananged to live their dream. Their legacy will live on.
As somebody else already pointed out, this is a loss for all off us, but our deepst sympathies should be with the family and friends of those who died. It saddened me every time I watched NASA officials struggling to hold back their grief in the news conferences.
Apologies for the lack of coherence.
