Play-By-Forum Game: The Series Concept [Play-by Forum interested persons, read this]

EDIT NOTE: I have gotten massive wave of new players who are interested in the game the past few days. This is GREAT, but I don't think I'll be able to handle more than the 5 or 6 we have right now. So I am closing off all applications, until I get used to this and we actually get the game started!

Okay, for those of you who indicated interest in the
play-by-forum game I am planning to run, here is the series
concept I have in the works. If you weren't one of those people,
feel free to post comments. You can also add your name to the
list of interested persons, check out the "Play-by-forum game"
thread posted by me in the Gaming Hub area. Thanks! By the way, sorry the formatting looks so weird on this post; I wrote this up in my word processor program and then copied it to the text box on the posting page. I won't do that again...


STAR TREK: STARBASE 619

Starbase 619 was constructed through joint
Federation-Cardassian effort following the massacre on
Cardassia at the end of the Dominion War. Its purpose is to aid
the Cardassians in the rebuilding of their homeworld by
providing medical aid, planetary security and law enforcement,
and a drop-off point for supplies and personnel contributing to
the rebuilding. So in essence, this series will be a lot like the DEEP SPACE NINE television series: we have a Starfleet crew working with alien personnel to provide humanitarian services
and protection to a war-torn world, just like Bajor was ruined by the Cardassians at the beginning of DS9. Players can play Starfleet or Cardassian officers, as well as independents of all kinds- just as on DS9, the chaos on Cardassia following the war provides an opening for all kinds of unsavory types to make a living and a profit, honestly or otherwise.

How does this sound, everyone? I'm still trying to add some more original elements to it since is a little too similar to the premise of DS9 in my opinion, but it's a start.

Of course! I posted it because I wanted to know what players want out of this game. :)

OK.

Then I'd suggest some ships to be attached to the station, to allow for some action far from it.
And you may place it too near a rather unknown star system (for instance, a recent Cardassian outpost, built at the beginning of the war and destroyed soon thereafter), with many archeological remains to explore and possibly an advanced civilisation.

Of course, we couldn't really settle for a spatial anomaly otherwise this might turn into a real DS9 rip off.

The original idea, which I forgot to mention above, was for the station to be in orbit around Cardassia; however if that idea doesn't sound good this is what I'd do:

Looking at the map of the Cardassian frontier available in TrekRP.net's computer core, I think I'll put the station on the lower-left edge of the Cardassian section of the map. That puts it right next to unexplored space, but still an ideal stopping-point for humanitarian-aid and medical ships passing through on the way to Cardassia. How does that sound?

I like it. This'd allow for a lot of encounters with the unknown... and why not some new power ?

I like the setting

I, too, like the idea of a frontier post, and think it would work well. This way, we should also have some occasional Romulan encounters. I also agree we should develop a new alien power somewhere "out there." :)

As for my character, I have two ideas I'm torn between.

The first one is to have a Vulcan Operations Manager who manages port operations, etc. The second concept (and the one I'm leaning toward right now) is a Cardassian engineer who saw heavy action during the war and still holds some resentment toward the Federation. However, his superiors want him here, so the least he can do is give the Blue Flags a chance.

Or, even more extreme...a Gorn agent who is posing as a merchant on station. ;)

Pity I haven't been reading the Gaming Hub lately, as I have two great character concepts which have been looking for suitable settings in which to be played: the first is a Starfleet emergency management specialist, and the second is a freelance civilian exocultural consultant. Either would mesh well with this one...

I see from your last post that you closed applications to this game.

I note that post was dated some time ago. Do you have any openings at the moment?
