Which Starship Class would you most like to serve on (or which do you think is the coolest starship design)?
I'd like to serve on a Galaxy-class. So many resources and so much to do.
And I think the Akira is just about the coolest ship design at the moment. I do like the Defiant, though. :)
Other - Intrepid Class
Small, Tough, Maneuverable, Tight Crew (better opportunities rather than multiple specialists that a Galaxy would have), and looks like it has pretty much all the advantages of a Galaxy without being a target...
+ planetfall capability...
Akira. In a dangerous galaxy, you bring all the quantum torpedoes you can with you... :D
And she just looks cool.
Galaxy gets an honourable mention for the space and resources.
23rd century - Constitution (uprated) Class Heavy Cruiser
24th century - Intrepid Class Cruiser
Class I would run away from screaming "You'll never take me alive!" - Galaxy Class Deathtrap. Ugly, ugly, ugly!
Nova class, small crew, almost complete guarantee of not being in the front lines, compared to other ships your job is primarily to sit and smell the roses...
And she's a beautiful class...
You coward!Quote:

Constitution all the way. I'm a 23rd century boy....
Saber Class seems to be a good one.
The ship is small enough that you have to stand on your own merits, and its hard for a bad leader to play their normal tactics. Its also a way to get early bridge experience, as the ranks tend to be lower than the larger vessels.
Plus the ship generally has defined mission parameters (patrol and defense primarily), but its not sent to every hot spot in the Federation like a Defiant would be.
The next choice would be an Excelsior, how could you not want to serve on a piece of living history?
Voted other. Intrepid all the way.
Serve on a piece of living history: Constitution
Wallow in sybaritic indulgence: Nebula or Sovereign
Save civilization from a new dark age made more protracted by the lights of perverted science, be part of a really tight-knit little crew, serve right up there at the point of the spear: Defiant
Oberth-class, all the way.
Give me the exploration, the science, the true mission of Starfleet :)
I'll leave the combat-heavy missions for those who want to blow things up ;)
Constitution, Movie era, Beeeaauuuu-ti-ful.:D
Besides, I'm an old fashioned kinda' guy.:D
Constitution (any), I am a sucker for the traditional. As long as Captain "Oops I got another Ensign Killed" Kirk is not in command.
"There must be 50 Ways to Kill and Ensign" starts up slowly in the background..
Tough choice.I like the smaller ships such as the Defiant and Saber-they are just cool.Had to go with the Sovereign ,though.
"One ship task force".There might be faster ships like the intrepid or combat-oriented ships like the Defiant of Akira, but the Sovvy is IMHO a bigger, more powerful Constitution class that can do any kind of mission.Loved watching her in combat in the movies. She's pretty much packing state of the art everything.
Honorable mention:NX-Class.Love the look of that ship.Much closer to the look of Naval ships I was aboard in my days as a civillian contractor to the USN.
Excelsior all the way, and I'm not talking about the new "preggy" refit (i.e., Enterprise-B).
You gotta go with the girl who brought you to the dance...Connie. :)
Of course, the Sovereign is a very, very close second...
This is a tough choice, because there are so many ship classes that I like. For TOS and Movie-era, I'd have to choose the Constitution-class (and its refit version). For TNG and beyond, I'd have to go with the Sovereign-class, with the Intrepid-class coming in a close second. Like Lowly Uhlan, though, I'll add the NX-class as an honorable mention (it may, when all is said and done, be my favorite ship, but I need more exposure to it first).
Greg
I would have to go with the Constitution all the way through and I would be honored to serve aboard the Enterprise under any of her Captains.

CKV.
Even the one with Cpt. whatever from Generations? (Cameron, just get your dad's starship and get over here! I tired of this..."Quote:

If you read the beginning of my statement you will note that it is referring to the Constitution-class not the Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy, Sovereign or NX-class. :DQuote:

I'm a sucker for the Miranda-class. Go U.S.S. Reliant!
Galaxy class. Pack your family on board and go to visit the stars, that's how I love the future! And lots of nice recreational facilites to spend your time on...
As for the coolest designs (ie beautiful ship I wouldn't like to serve on), have to go with Sovereign (when it's not being borgified or having its saucer sliced in half), with the refit Connie not too far behind.
Nova- Great looking little ship, the whole crew is your family.Y ou survey a homeworld of some unknown race. :)
Akira! Even if she weren't a carrier!! :D
I have to add that I certainly wouldn't mind having a Danube-class runabout to tool around in.
Sure would cut down on the commute. :)

Better than that. Its pretty certain that most commutes will be well within transporter range... Save the torps for the holidays...
I would definitely have to say the Akira class....if it comes down to combat situations...either the Defiant or the Akira would rock. And despite all the differences I've read regarding the Akira's armaments, I still dig the idea of it being a fast torpedo cruiser, with 15 torpedo tubes capable of deploying photon or quantum torpedoes. I'm sure it's exploratory capabilities are quite nice, but it has speed and firepower to boot. If an alien were to come up to this ship and decide to cop an attitude with us, I would love to see the looks on their faces when their captain orders:
"Tactical Analysis!" :D
But that is my humble opinion.
Respectfully,
General Chang
OMG Reg, that was hilarious.:DQuote:

And despite how much I may love this class (totally different species), I kinda feel for the Klingons and their K't'inga class battlecruisers. I mean, imagine some giant omnipotent being putting a halt to an advancing K't'inga, lifting the topside of the boom section, and sitting down to read the morning paper. Those poor poor Klingons.. Then again, one can guess as to what phasers and toilet paper have in common.:D
Respectfully and irreverently,
General Chang
I voted the Galaxy, as it was called once "The Hilton in Space" (or some other hotel name)- but if I had any pick out of any fleet I'd say D'Deridex.
Well, as a Fan of All Things Klingon, I prefer the K'Vort-class Bird-of-Prey cruiser.Quote:

Other - Prometheus Class
Message in a Bottle would have to be my favourite Voyager Episode. And the Prometheus Class would have to be by far the most advanced ship in the fleet.
Any other ship would be second best :)
Oh, you mean like the crew of the U.S.S. Equinox? Personally I don't think I'd like being quite *that* far from the front lines... ;)Quote:

Sorry, I think I'll take my chances on a Sovereign class ship. It may put me on the front lines, but since I'll undoubtedly get in trouble anyway - call me paranoid - I'll take all the Quantum Torpedoes I can. Besides, with so few Sovereigns around my chances will be good to end up on a ship with a very famous captain and crew, and which is therefore protected from any form of destruction by the hero clause and bad plot writing... (now for avoiding the dreaded Crewman number Six position...) ;)
On second thought I might choose the Achilles class ship from the Dominion Wars computer game, but then it wasn't on the list... Yes, I know the game is crap, but the ship is so cool!
It is cool isn't it. I just love that Ramming Deflector idea and the Phalanx Micro-torpedo launchers.Quote:

Both Snake Pliskin came up with the CODA stats for it recently (and I created the Jem'Hadar Super Carrier and Cardassian Hutet from the same game). Sadly the the Phalanx torpedo array doesn't translate over into the new Coda Starship combat rules.
If you've not already seen these threads:
Achilles Class

Hutet Class

Super Carrier Class

Enjoy.
:)
Thanks, but I'm a decided CODA skeptic and like ICON much better.Quote:

Besides, I've done my own version of the Achilles under the Spacedock rules for ICON which I put on the forum a few months back. It was a redesign of a version done earlier by Phoenix, another patron of these boards, and I think that's where the 'Ramming Deflector' (Ramming Hull in ICON's Spacedock rules) comes from, because it is not part of the original design notes that Gizmo Games put on the net when the game was released. In fact, I'm sure it's not because I considered dropping it from my design, and I stick as close to the original 'canon' (as much as it can be for a computer game) as I can.
Anyway, I digress...
