For everyone in the UK, Orcs Nest now has the Creatures Manual advertised on its website :D. Price comes in at £15.99.
Check out www.orcsnest.com for details.
They had it for sale at GenCon. I didn't pick it up because I have a preorder at my store.Quote:

In any case, it shouldn't be long.
Ensign D.
I saw the Creature book at my FLGS and I must say how truly disappointed I was. $25 for a hardcover that wasn't any bigger than the SOM. I put it down immeadiately and left the store...how sad. I will say that the descriptions of the creatures themselves was ok.
Just recieved my copy of Creatures in this morning's post. I haven't had time to read it fully but, on the inital flip-through, I thought it looked OK. Personally I'd like to have seen a few more illustrations within it, but I like the idea of including a number of Terrestrial Creatures (apes, snakes) to use as Templates if you need to drop a Creature into a scenario quickly.
One thing does puzzle me, however: why are Exocomps (from the TNG episode The Quality Of Life) included in this particular book? I would not class them as a "creature" as the whole point of the episode centred upon Data's attempt to prove that the Exocomps had intelligence .
You dont consider creatures to be intelligent? last time i checked most could think and even learn things, so therefore i would consider an ape, horse etc... "intelligent".
just because they dont have higher thought, it doesnt mean they arent intelligent.
from what us humans can tell in real life, plants are non-intelligent, rocks are non intelligent (and also non living)
I am not going to pick it up, too much negative comments, and I don't care about creatures anyway. They have never been featured in a game of mine. :)
*Waiting for Worlds*
I of course must have it, in the best interests of keeping a complete collection :)
Probably won't use it much though.
I saw it in my FLGS this past weekend. I bought the Two Towers Sourcebook instead, though. :D

Agree with Matt totally. One hundred percent.
Worlds - gimme gimme gimme.
Amazon still isn't aware Creatures has been released.
Next time I wait for it to be on the Decipher Store web site. Endlessly grousing.
This site is pretty good about ensuring up to date info is on the site and they have great prices. Give it a look see.

Picked it up a few days ago at the FLGS; as many of the other posters here have indicated, it's really nothing to write home about. The species listed are decent enough, but there's a distinct lack of artwork and/or screen shots to indicate exactly what a number of these things actually look like, and having the series/movie/episode listed where they originally appeared might have been nice. Also, I was a touch ticked that the M-113 Salt Vampire, which is prominently featured on the cover, never made it inside.
As Don indicated re the Narrator's Screen, this is one that's probably best left for the refs to pick up, and then only if wriggly beasties are going to be making a significant appearance.
Also, one thing that just struck me as I've been writing this: the parasites from TNG's "Conspiracy" have never been quantified, to the best of my knowledge, either in Creatures or Aliens. Am I missing something here, or is this one that slipped through the crack in both works? Have their characteristics been defined somewhere else?
Two words. Okay, an acronym and a word. TNG Sourcebook. :)Quote:

I really want to be using those guys, and had always meant to write them up for ICON, in connection to the Trill stuff... But falling through cracks and all that.
I suppose the M113 Salt Vamire will be the TOS Sourcebook then? (athough this doesn't quite explain its presemnce on the cover of Creatures) :D
Just one question for those with Cretaures, are Whales and Dolphins covered? I have always had a hankering for a Cetacean navigation officer Character or NPC of some description?
One word: When?Quote:

Try either Stiggybaby's or Gamer's Attic for your online gaming needs. Better prices, with as good or better shipping, than you'll find on Amazon.Quote:

Got my copy today :D
It's still in development, so most likely early next year. :)Quote:

Well, I got "Creatures" today.
On the whole, I'm glad I got it. I'll probably use it on my next planetary adventure. Could have used more illustrations, though. If color is prohibitive, I'd sacrifice it for quantity of line drawings. I mean, how could we NOT have a Denebian Slime Devil or a "teddy bear with six inch fangs?"
Bring on WORLDS and THROUGH A GLASS!
Hopefully, before I qualify for Social Security! :D
August, it says! ACK!
(Well, at least try to get them out before my birthday. It's October 14th. That way I can make my parents buy them for me.)
Got my copy today at "my" local RPG/CCG/what-ever-geeky-game store. No rush, they always get 2 of each ST CODA books because they know that an another guy and I will always buy them :D
I HAD to have it.
A hole is the collection (1,2 ... 5 ... 7 ?) wouldn't be acceptable ;)
But I'm a little disapointed, for the same reason listed before.
It's quite thin, and lacks of drawings and/or pictures. At least, one per creature would have been nice.
And I also regret that no list of episodes/movies appearances has been made.
Can't wait to get my greedy hands on "Worlds" though ...
Just to pick up Dan's question:
What about whales and dolphins in "Creatures"? Anything for NPC or even PC useage?
The last M113 salt vampire died after the events of "Mantrap", right? Right? RIGHT?? :)Quote:

There's nothing in "Creatures" about Whales and Dolphins -- it's really not a book about creatures that can be used as characters (that book is "Aliens", and it doesn't have anything about dolphins or whales, either.)
HTH.
Correction! The last KNOWN M113 salt vampire died after "mantrap", but if modern day fisherman can pull a supposedly extinct marine animal from the depths off the coast of South Africa, then there just might be another one of these beasties roaming the cosmos!
I don't suppose anyone here has already statted up such a critter, have they?
*fingers crossed*
Here's where I should post the hilarious Magic: the Gathering card.
please do!
:D
I always wondered about the salt vampire. Sine it was supposedly intelligent, you'd think it would have had enough sense to stop sucking salt out of crewmen and just raid the pantry.
Maybe it killed Kirk and took over the ship. Shatne'sr hair never quite looked the same after that episode.
I always imagined for a creature like that eating salt tablets is the equivalent of MREs. Sure, it will keep you alive but theres an all-you-can-eat steak buffet just around the corner!
Besides, with the creatures psionic and/or shapechanging abilities, why settle for less?
