As part of its exploration directives of the 2240s, the Federation Council authorized the creation of "civilian-administered deep-space facilities to provide way stations for merchants, explorers and Starfleet personnel." The resulting K-Type stations became a haven for Federation citizens in the rifts between stellar clusters.

Hardy, but lightly armed, the station supports an administrative and maintenance crew of over 600, and residential sections for 1,200 additional beings. It's shuttlebay is large enough for Size 4 ships to land in (for a nominal fee), although it does maintain a standard Class F shuttlecraft for station operations.

One of the most notable K-Type stations was K-7, the Federation's main supply base for the development of Sherman's Planet in the late 2260s. In 2267, a shipment of the revolutionary grain quadrotriticale bound for Sherman's Planet was being stored at K-7 when the crew of USS Enterprise discovered it had been poisoned by a Klingon agent.

Edit: I mistakenly used 141 space, which is for size 9 ships. The only things that changed are a reduction in structure by 10, and a reduction in cargo by 60. I also changed the average deck size to 6 meters/deck, reducing the decks to 63 and the crew/passenger complement accordingly. Put in the wrong number of impulse engines required. A size 8 craft requires 7 SBAs.

It's 380 meters high. Using the 3-5m per deck rule from the NG, I decided I should give this thing as few decks as possible. So, I divided by 5 to get 76 decks.

Remember, this thing is about as tall as a refitted Constitution is long.

OK, I've never done a deck count, but the diametre of the station is approximately 450m, based on the miniature built for ST:DS9's Trial and Tribble-ations, using the Class F shuttle in the shuttlebay as a base measurement (24' in length).

With a 340m radius, the station as given in these stats is way too large, by about 50% (linear).

Owen, I was just going by my own measurements of an image of the station model and extrapolating them from the length of the Class F/G shuttle (which gave me the ~340m radius). If someone has actually published dimensions of the models, please share them.

'Til then, I'll stick with my numbers.

It's been a loooong while since I read the Coda books, but isn't the computer part of the Ops System?
With a class 5 ops system this station would have one of the most advanced computer systems ever installed on a Starfleet ship or base.

Why not make it a class 3R or 4R instead, at least for Aslan's DS6? It would use almost the same space, but be a little less advanced, which I would consider more fitting for a frontier installation (i.e. better use a older, hardened, system, than a cutting-edge system that's prone to be damaged with the first hit).

OTOH, that may just be me. ;)

The computer core is only a part of the operations system, which also encompases transporter operations, command and control, supply and logistics, flight control, etc.

Also, I think that it's improper to equate "highly capable" with "technologically advanced." I gave it a Class 5 operations system because the station's entire purpose is to support regional commerce and exploration. It's a way station built on support, and must have the capability to provide that support. The Coda system that best describes that capability is "Operations."

It's basically quite small (I've calculated it to be about 160 meters high by about 320 meters wide as an average - the long docking arm being about 200 meters) - and technically it's 39 decks high - though of course allot of that is not very ruminous :D

ANyway if you could do that it'd be cool and I return you to your regular service! :D

Hmm, it looks like a K-type variant, maybe a newer class of station base on the K-type. I'll have to think on it a bit.

This looks great. I'll definitely steal this one (with your permission of course). I'm planning to transfer my players to one of the stations along the RNZ and your design seems to be perfect for this.

I'm using Lightwave to do it all in, but I made up allot of the component parts in Illustrator and of course painted the textures in Photoshop :D

It's not finished yet, those are just some of the work in progress shots I've been making up, to show people how it's coming allong :D I've been skiving off at the Scifi-meshes website, so if you want to follow the progres you can check it out on there :D

I don't mind too much if people want to use it for their private stuff but I'd like to know if you use it publically - if for no other reason than I don't want it 'released' before it's finished :D

The station design is based on all sorts of bits and peices from Startrek - especially some of the concept designs for the Amargosa stellar observatory, though of course I needed to add some actual interior space to it :D

It's pretty small actually, but it has some pretty good defence phasers (Which are actually rigged in the model if I want to aim them at something! :D) and of course good sensors and long range COMMS arrays. The idea is that the station is pretty much modular - so you can swap out the various arms depending on your needs. I guess you could also use a variation on the arms and chain a few of them together if you wanted to make a larger facility (Not that my computer would cope with the ram demands if I did that !)

Points wise I suspect it's not going to fit much at all in it ! :D

With some straight up 6-views, or better yet some of the Illustrator files, a guy with time on his hands (which I may not have for some time, but I'd sure like to try and sneak some in) might be able to work up some deckplans.

The first problem with deckplans is trying to get the vessel/base exterior re-drawn and the scale worked out. This is not an insignificant hurdle mind you, my Raven plans sputtered and have practically died due to this problem (I continue to hold out some hope for them of course). If those components can be supplied to me however, the interior work can be gotten to in a much shorter timeframe.

Just thinking out loud of course...

All of the model was constructed from an Illustrator template, which I can send you.

That would be awsome if you could do that for me! Quite how it's all going to fit inside there I have no ideas, but I'm more than willing to help! :)

What I do know is wrong in the sections in illustrator is that the docking bays are longer in the final model. This is 'cause I realised a Runabout wouldn't fit in it!!!

I can't remember if that top down is older than the rejig or not, so if you find a runabout is bigger it'll need stretching ! I'll do another top down render when i get the chance.

Ok doing a little detective work and trying to measure a REALLY awkwardly shaped object I derived the following dimensions for your reference too...

Going back to my original illustrator file I managed to work out that the upper saucer section is 90.2 meters wide. I measured the docking arm precisely. It's 230.45 meters from the very centre of the spindle to the outer edge, that is just one half of the station. Now it's hard to say exactly how long the other side is, because if you're using the docking arm - then the other two arms are at 60 degrees from it - making measuring it a pain ! However that said.. The 'subspace antennae' arm is around 200.2 meters from the core to the tip and the 'telescope' arm is 143 meters from centreline to tip.

To give you a more accurate figure (which will change because there's a few antennae details to be added to the bottom yet) on that render the model is 159 meters high.

So using the pixel dimensions of that render it's 320 meters - but I am not sure if I set that for a 1/1 aspect ratio.... But as I said it's not it's widest possible size... Ok using Photoshop again and the top down render.... the widest it can be is 373 meters (not counting possible additions of docking gantries in the future)
