    Transfer Power Questions?

The Transfer power option (NG pg 99-101):

An engineer can intentionally cause one block of damage to one system, effectively reducing its capabilities, to temporarily “upgrade” the performance of another system, causing it to operate as though it were one class better than it really is. For example, a Class 3 sensor system behaves as though it were a Class 4 sensor system, granting a +4 bonus to System Operations (Sensors) tests.

-How do you upgrade Beam weapons in this way?
Does a Phaser type X becomes a Type XI, and then recalculate
    the offensive value?

-Can you upgrade Warp and sublight engines this way, and how?

Any coment on these questions would be great.

    New Questions:

1)Transfer Power is a Propulsion Engineer skill test.
2)Reinforce shield is a System Engineer test (I know shields are a part of System engineering).
The two skill uses do the same thing: Do one block of damage on one system and give it to an other system.

-Can you use System Engineer to get the effects of Transfer Power (sinse you can use both skills it to transfer power)?
-Or do you have to Use Propulsion Engineer First to Transfer the Power, and then make a System Engineer test to use the new power to Reinforce the shields?

Basically, yes. Simply increase the Offensive value by one per weapon.

I can't remember them actually doing so onscreen, plus the engines are in essence the main power supply of the ship, so I would think not.

Actually, they do not. Transferring power can be used to improve the performance of any system, damaged or not. Reinforcing the shields can only be used to temporarily repair damaged shields.

A lenient Narrator might say that you can use System Engineering if you have the (Power Systems) specialty.

I would say that you couldn't reinforce the shields until after the power transfer expires. See the last paragraph under Transfering Power on page 101.
