Dunno. I've got the book but don't have my scanner set up at the moment.

If you haven't gotten it in a few days give me a shout and I'll try to do it for you.

And people bitch at me for copyrighted material?

If your going to have a rule it should apply to all, not pick and choose. And yes, scanning a map out of a COPYRIGHTED book, out of print or not is just as bad as posting a characters stats out of another copyrighted book.

Actually Shoshuro, I have these maps in print on my shelves right now. I have most everything FASA made for Trek, but I don't have a scanner and needed an electronic copy for which to make a new map for my campaign.

I am pretty sure since I own the books, this owuld fall under the "fair use" rules.

Also they have not been posted here either.

In the end it is up to don to make the call here, and if he feels I have made an inappropriate request, I will apologize for it.

There's a difference, both ethical and legal, between posting material on the web and privately supplying an excerpt of out-of-print to someone in E-mail.

The main reason why copyrighted material is not supposed to be Posted here is because there could be a lawsuit and the administrator, Don, would be in trouble for users posting the material. If copyrighted material is passed through email the only people that can be held responsible are the two or more parties in the email. Atleast thats how I understand it.

Fair use covers making a copy for yourself.

And honestly I don't think it should make a difference, a rule is a rule, it should cover all aspects, not just bits and pieces becuse you don't feel it applys to you.

I find it amazing that it's not a big problem for FASA stuff to be duped but because LUG people come here it's not ok.

And I'm sorry, but with so many places that have scanners (kinkios, wal-mart, etc) there's no real reason to have someone else do it when you can go out and do it yourself.

    Shoshuro,

There is a Staples and a Kinkos in my city, but they charge money and frankly I don't feel like paying for it to scan something, if I can find a free way to do it.

I understand that you think a double standard is being applied here. I understand you feel you were slapped on the wrist for something you see as simillar, and that is all well and good, but instead of making a scene, there is a simple system in place of moderators and Don to deal with your complaints.

By hashing this out in a public way you are simply coming off as petulant (IMNSHO) and whiny.

    YMMV

If you have a problem lodge a complaint with Don. He is a fair and resonable man who will arbitrate in the way he feels is best. I will always abide by what he says and leave it at that.
