I have the ICON version of that adventure.
Old Age And Treachery Will Triumph Over Youth And Skill
So do I. And the story of Perdition's Flames also seemed familiar to me (it might have already been posted in the adventure seeds thread). Are we going to see any new adventures, maybe from somebody who wasn't/isn't a regular Decipher employee?
I don't want to criticize the adventures posted so far, I am just curious why they made a public adventure solicitation if they are only going to use those adventures submitted by their staff.
A couple of points:I suspect Decipher is posting those adventures that are ready and presentable (laid out).
- Dave Biggins isn't/wasn't "Decipher Staff"
- Doug Burke isn't/wasn't "Decipher Staff" and, as far as I know, the adventure was entirely original. (Doug will have to speak to that one.)
I'd lay serious odds that the next adventure posted (if ever) will be "Pieces of You" by Dave Biggins, a DS9-era adventure. After that, probably the other two con adventures, "Back Streets of Rigel VII" and "Day of Pain" (?), both by Jesse Heinig.

FWIW, both LOTR adventures posted so far have been written by non-Decipher personnel. Granted, I was a playtester, but I entered the contest same as everyone else.Originally posted by Ergi

I think the other LOTR adventures we playtested were also all non-Decipher people, but I don't recall offhand.

Yeah!
While some aspects of the adventure are derivative (but then, what entertainment isn't, really?), the adventure itself was entirely original.Originally posted by Don Mappin

In D&D3E, Abyssal is not the language of evil vacuum cleaners.
Perdition's Flames does bare some similarity to an adventure that used to be hosted on TrekRPGnet, that was inspired by a TNG novel about the descendents of a TOS era crew who'd been fighting a war with the descendents of another enemy on a planet somewhere for over a century. As I recall, the adventure posted utilised Earth Starfleet and Romulans, whose ancestors had ended up on the planet in question during the Romulan War, and had been fighting ever since.
I don't remember who wrote it, or what the the adventure was called. But that's probably what Ergi is thinking of. The actual adventure is quite different though.
Also wanted to add, Crusoe Effect is a good adventure, but I can't help but feel a tad cheated that they posted an already available adventure, albeit revamped for a different system.
You know, I read that adventure (I believe Dave Biggens wrote it) after I ran Perdition's Flames the first time and realized that I had read the book it was based off as well. ::shrug:: Great minds float in the same gutter, I say...Originally posted by Capt Daniel Hunter

I like both of them, and it gives a template for fan made adventures aswell.
Yes, you are right. I only remembered a few basic parts of the plot and therefore thought the two adventures were identical. Sorry for that.Originally posted by Capt Daniel Hunter

That's the same way I felt. Adding those feelings to my current frustration with Decipher's customer information policy made me a little bit angry.Originally posted by Capt Daniel Hunter

I can't quite figure out what the point was in releasing the way they did. OK, so it was modified to be compatible for CODA, but other than that it's really nothing new.Originally posted by Ergi

Of course, there may be people who didn't have the ICON version, but still. They could have released it alongside an original adventure.
Still, at least theyr'e trying.

I for one I'm glad that they reprinted the Crusoe Effect for the Coda system. I have the original LUG version but never got a chance to run it. Decipher has saved me the effort of having to convert it to Coda from Icon. I look forward to future free STRPG adventures from Decipher.
