    Thumbs down What is Morn?

    Hi!
What is Morn, a friend of mine believes he is Gorn. I am not sure myself. I looked at a page called Quarks and they did not say, but had useful info from episodes about Morn including what system he was born in and info that he had hair. This makes me suspect that he is not Gorn (Hairy lizard anyone?). Does anyone know?

No, Morn's not a Gorn. According to the official site (www.startrek.com), he's a Lurian.

Morn is a Luiran from his homeworld Luria IV in the Ionite Nebula. Which is some distance from DS9.

Morn also has some criminal elements or did. But now runs a freighter/company.

Not a vital system! What the heck do you think stops the ship going 'poof' every time it goes to warp?

Lurian stats can be found in Raiders Renegades & Rogues.
Morn as a full write up in the encyclopedia (almost a full column) listing every little detailed we know about him. Frome the top of my head I remember he has a very large family, he did some contraband, he was interested in vole fights, he has multiple hearts and multiple stomachs (hence the redundant organs advantage in the template). He is also rumored to be a very talkative and funny guy (also we never saw him speak ) He seemed to have some success with women as he was sometimes seen with Dabo girls and came close to invite Jadzia Dax to dinner (she finds his little hair cute IIRC).

ANybody else notice this - switch the first and last letters in his name and you have "Norm". They even made fun of this once when Morn entered the bar and everybody lifted their glasses and called out his name. Anybody who has seen Cheers should get it right away.

    Here's food for thought ...

In 2365 (about four years before the Cardassian Withdrawal from Bajor), Morn was one of the main participants in the infamous Lissepian Mother's Day Heist, in which he got away with a fortune in latinum.

    The planet was Lissepia.

In 2366, possibly only a few months later, Gul Dukat decided to send his Bajoran mistress, Tora Naprem, and his daughter, Tora Ziyal, away from Bajor into hiding. They were aboard the Ravinok, which unfortunately was attacked by Breen and didn't reach its destination.

Where was the Ravinok headed with Dukat's daughter? You guessed it, Lissepia.

There's also the fact that the Lissepians were suspected by the Bajorans of maintaining a trade alliance during the Occupation with the Cardassians.

Makes you wonder if there's a connection ...

Maybe a Lissepian trader on Terok Nor thought he recognized Morn and told Dukat, who blackmailed Morn into providing a good hiding place for Ziyal -- the very place that Morn's gang used to successfully hide out after the heist?

I'm beginning to see the seeds of an Occupation-based scenario ...

    Cool

Score one for James! Morn was created and placed in Quark's as a lasting tribute to Norm from Cheers. (From the Star Trek Encyclopedia). Its in italics at the bottom of the column.

"Morn was created and placed in Quark's as a lasting tribute to Norm from Cheers."

Well, not perzackly. Morn was originally a nameless one-shot described as a "grinch-like alien," but the actor kept getting callbacks. It wasn't until later in the series that he got the name Morn and the status of Quark's Bar's resident "Norm" homage.
