    Post Decipher Revelations about TrekRPG

GAMA starts today! And it's likely that Decipher will announce something during this week about the new Star Trek RPG. So, with the heavy weight of the past thread of speculations and rumors, let's begin a new, fresh one. Let's put a couple of candles to St. Decipher and pray for news.

    Let the games begin...

How about we sing 99 bottles of beer on the wall?

That usually attracts a crowd....it does!

I guess I should say twenty Our Fathers and twenty Hail Marys.

Let us keep our fingers crossed... maybe someone should try to find a four-leave clover.

Okay, maybe a little correction here...

I went to GAMA.org, and I found this:

Show is Monday-Thursday March 19-22, 2001 The Orleans Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

That refers to the GTS or GAMA Trade Show (http://www.gama.org/GTS/GTS.html )... it seems we'll have to wait for four more days. UGH!

How can this be, most everyone believe the 15th was the date? Delayed due to some unforseen incident?

    Hmmm. Speculation begins anew!

Not a vital system! What the heck do you think stops the ship going 'poof' every time it goes to warp?

You don't "delay" conventions that big. The listed dates have always been correct. Someone simply had the wrong data. Don't worry, Monday will be here soon.

Not quite as soon as Friday, but definitely soon. Oooh, the anticipation. Makes ya just want to run around the house a few times, doesn't it?

OK, I don't know if anyone else has received the same yet, but I just found the following email in my inbox, in reply to a message I sent Decipher about a fortnight ago:

    ---------------------------------------------
LAST UNICORN GAMESı DEVELOPERS JOIN DECIPHER
Company Moves Forward with Star Trek Roleplaying Game

(Norfolk, Va., March 16, 2001) * Decipher Inc. announces it has hired the
former staff of Last Unicorn Games, Inc. Noted for the creation of more
    than
20 Star Trek RPG products, as well as the popular Dune RPG, the Last
Unicorn staff will form Decipherıs new roleplaying and miniature games
    development team.

The seven-person team hired by Decipher includes Last Unicorn Gamesı
    former
president Christian Moore who will head up Decipherıs RPG and miniatures
division, operating out of Los Angeles. Initially, the division will
concentrate on development of the Star Trek RPG as a result of Decipher
    acquiring the license last year.

This announcement follows Decipherıs recent acquisition (January 2001) of
the entire staff and assets of Fantastic Media, the longtime founders and
operators of the Star Wars and Star Trek Fan Clubs. Decipher will now
    manage
the operation of the official Star Trek Fan Club, operate the startrek.com
online store and publish its bi-monthly Star Trek Communicator magazine.

Decipher CEO Warren Holland said, "We are very excited to have Christian
Moore and his talented team of designers become part of the Decipher
    family.
Last Unicorn created some of the most beautiful RPG products Iıve ever
    seen."

"I have always admired Decipherıs bold creative and aesthetic visions for
their product line. I think this move represents a natural fit for us. It
almost feels like coming home," said Christian Moore, Decipherıs new RPG
    and
    miniatures product manager.

Confirmed. I'm listening to Radio Free Decipher right now, and a 15 minute interview with Christian Moore is currently going on my computer He's mentioned TREKRPG.NET, too, in a good light -- see, don't you wish you'd taken better care of all those nasty things you said? :P
Anyway, if you're interested, go to www.decipher.com, and listen to the Radio Free Decipher broadcast for March 16, and go to the third segment (after the first two seven minute segments). It's there for all
One thing Christian has said is that they don't plan to do many (if any) "smaller, hardcore" books -- they want to do BIG stuff. Hope that translates to good news, but it does seem to confirm one belief -- that Decipher plans to throw out a big net to catch as much interest as possible, so I hope we don't lose folks (and certain specific topics) in the cracks.

    This is excellent news.

Now all we need to know, is are they going to produced a revised version of ICON?

    Hmmmmmm.

Y'know, it's a little ironic how everyone was cursing about the evil WOTC at first, and then the evil Decipher. And now Decipher has done exactly what we wanted them to do.

Of course, the irony of Decipher taking not just the license, but the game designers from WOTC is even more amazing......
