What is the standard Resolution webpages should be made for these days? I am thinking 1024x768 or is it still 800x600?
As an aside what resolutions do you all run?

800x600 is still the standard. I work in the IT field and manage (partly) the people who are responsible for the desktop experience at work. If the machines come up in anything other than 800x600 we hear about it.
A rare few request help to "make the text smaller" (ie. increase resolution to 1024x768).
I run each of my monitors at 1280x1024, making my desktop 2560x1024.

Doh! A suggestion:
Build around 800x600 but design for variable-width. That way if a user (like me, see above) has lots more browser real estate, you'll take advantage of it. The guy at 800x600 will also be happy.
I find it pretty annoying to browse with my resolution and run into sites that are "fixed" at 800x600 or 640!
This forum, as an example, is designed on that model.

Thank you very much!
I run dual 1280x1024 myself for the above 2560x1024. I am out of touch fo the standard. The reason I wanted to know was because of the banner for a webpage.
For a header or such, use a table and a spanable image as the background. That'll disguise the header and make it resize to fit.Originally posted by Lt Cmdr Matt

Change your forum style here to the LotR style for an example. (The Sindarin script that spans the entire page width.)

Thanks again.
8x6 is the standard? Are you kidding? At NPS, we haven't used 8x6 as a standard for about 3 years.
LCD projectors have been using 1024x768 as their native resolution for at least two years now.
I couldn't even think about using a computer at 8x6. It's hideous to me.

Yeah, where I work our computers are set to display 1280x1024...of course, we just got fancy new Dell workstations with flat-panel monitors.
Still, it's hard to imagine working with 800x600 on a day-to-day basis...just too big for me.

The school computers on my campus are set at 8 x 6 to accomdate students with vision problems. Plus the icons are set at the maximum size. But 8 x 6 is just too big, IMO.
