Back in the US of A

Made it back to home station yesterday. The Herk only had to stop for fuel in Incirlik Turkey, Ramstein Germany, Keflavik Iceland, St John's Newfoundland, and Westover Massachussetts. Still, she ran like a champ the whole way. Not bad for a 40 year old airframe and a half-century old design.

Cool. My friend that was heading home got stuck in the sandbox with this new outbreak of trouble. All of 1ST AD's gotten stopped, and a bunch that were already on route home got orders to turn around and come back to Iraq.

    Welcome home.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Right now I have two weeks of "reconstitution time", so I'm just sitting around reconstituting. I'll be attending an NCO academy (required for eligibility for promotion to master sergeant) for about 6 weeks, and I'm scheduled to be on my way back to the sandbox in August.

Good to be back in the real world. In the immortal words of Mr Scott, "It's green!"

Thanks for all the good thoughts and welc0mes home.

Welcome home! I can't really think of any eloquant (sp?) way of saying thanks for your service and sacrifice, but that's what I mean to say. I hope you enjoy your time at home.
