skill bonus gained from professionnal and edges

    Hello

During Character creation, at what stage skill bonus/advantages gained from professional abilities and edges applyes ? during Personnal Devellooement, Professional Developpment or after character creation ?

I could be wrong on this one, but I don't think it really matters what stage you get a skill bonus (or gain a skill level).

It only applies in the specified situations if the bonus is gained from a professional ability or edge (or the skill levels all add together anyway if you get the same skill from two or more sources). With a max level of 6, I believe, for starting characters.

Does that help at all? Did I confuse you more? Did I even answer your question?

If not fire away again and I'll try to clarify.

    Exemple

I want to make an engineer with enginerring certifcation

it permit me to use all the engineering untrained and each time i choose an engineering skill i earn a free specialty

if I have learned an engineering skill during my childhood (personal development) do I use this special ability at that stage or do I use when I begin my profesionnal stage, (after all at personal development, I am not yet en engineer)

I understand your question better now.

According to the Development Chapter, page 85 of the Player's Guide, second column, second paragraph:

    Acquiring Skills

"... You need not consider the character's profession, since personal development occurs before making professional skill picks. In other words, in personal development characters have yet to pursue their careers ..."

In your example above, as you state, you're not an engineer yet. I'd say that if you take an engineering skill in personal development, you don't get the free specialty yet.

    Thumbs up

    Yep, seems logical to me.

Although it is a wee bit confusing at first to read this in chapter 5. I sort of wish that the character creation system had been explained in one chapter like the ICON Trek core books.

    Minor gripe, though.
