There is an energy barrier at the center of the galaxy, and at the edge. Will Voyager have to go through the one in the center?

Probably not. Assuming the Continuity Gods do not just remover the barrier, Voyager will plot a course to go around it. If, in fact, it is far enough from the center to cross Voyager's path to begin with.

Something tells me that is one of the many things in STV:TFF that has been ruled non-canonaical.Originally posted by flip:
What about the Great Barrier at the Core to keep in that Sha Ka Ree whoosits in STV-FF?
Good thing, too.
MikeC, that, Shatner's girdle, and Uhura's striptease.....
I believe that it was the barrier from ST:V that was under discussion.

Read Q War for an interesting reason for the Barriers.

"Mission? what mission?"
"Save the galaxy."
"AGAIN?!?!?!?!"
I figure the Sig might like to comment on this.
I think ignoring ST: V is a pretty darned good idea, myself. Always thought the barrier thing was silly. But hey...
I keep wondering why they didn't try this for the fifth flick: Maybe what they should have found AT the barrier was Gary Mitchell waiting for them. Monotone voice "It's been a long time, Jim..." Whoa no!
I used to think the exact same way Qerlin...I thought that makes for a great movie. Gary Mitchel is making someone bring Kirk back to him for revenge! Yes!<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by qerlin:

Then I rewatched the episode and realised the planet they left Gary on is on this side of the barrier...but other than that, great minds think alike and fools seldom differ.
Hey on a side note, is there a list of the stuff from Star Trek V that is not canon?

And SpyOne, nice to see ya about again.
The Galactic barrier from ST:V can still be a 'silly' cloud towards the core or the Enterprise could have caught some sort of Warp Highway!
As to the galactic barrier from TOS, it could just be the edge above us at about 1000 ly, which with some alien tinkering can be reached in good time.

'...The Borg have stopped at deck 10...'
'...Deflector Control, no vital systems...'
Not a vital system! What the heck do you think stops the ship going 'poof' every time it goes to warp?
