[CODA] Starship Design - What am I doing wrong?

    Hi all,

In the series I'm working on, the characters will be using a re-refitted Excelsior class that was seriously damaged during the Dominion War, and only through influence in the Admirality did the ship get rebuilt.

Using the rules in Starships, no matter how many times I check my math, I'm always left over with a LOT of points. I even upgraded the phasers to XI banks and upgrade the sensors from C reliability to CC reliability and I *still* had 2 points left over.

Anyone feeling bored and willing to kill 15 minutes to verify that I'm right? Or, even better, that I can't add?

Hey Uruz. Nope your math isn't off. Normally you want to have spaces (points) left over. It gives room for upgrades later. The number of spaces is essentially the total "volume" the ship can hold. You don't "have" to spend them all, but it is tempting!!

Hmph. The Engineer in me says that I'm not designing the ship correctly. Thanks for the verification, though.

If you reverse-engineer the ships in the book, many have space left over. You're not obligated to spend every last drop.

BTW, I find it funny to describe 2 space as "a lot."

You can do a lot with 2 space!

    I agree!

BTW, I just pulled my records. A few random ships from "Starships" and the amount of leftover space:

    Constellation - 1
    Danube - 4
    Akira - 3
    Ambassador - 6
    Aerowing - 0
    Delta Flyer - 0
    Nova - 0
    NX-class - 7
    Nebula - 23 (20 per add-on)
    Sov - 2

    So don't sweat it.
