Star Trek: Ship Recognition Manual: The Forgotten Species, Parts 1 & 2

I had mentioned starting a new thread on this subject, from the Romulan SRM, here's what led up to this point.

I think that there needs to be a few more ships to create a book all it's self. The Ferengi, Orion with maybe a Bajoran, Trill thrown in would be good.

Sense Steve Long is Busy which we all understand. As we get older we have to make a living.

We could start it up with each taking a group of ships to hash out. For starters somewhere in my files I already have a Bajoran Freighter, a fighter and a Transport vessel that never has seen the light of day. There maybe an Orion ship somewhere too, well it may not be finished just yet, but it's been stated.

    Just an idea.

How about a two part SRM Star Trek Ship Recognition Manual: The Forgotten Species, Part 1 Foreign Governments (Ferengi, Orion, Gorn, Tholian?, Breen, etc...) Part 2 Member Worlds (Andorian, Bajorian, Tellerite, Trill, Vulcan etc...).
Also in the theme that Steve has with the SRM's, we could include various minor races of non-canon origin towards the end to represent threats to the other species, and slightly expand the Trek universe for exploration.

As Omega1967 said, Just an idea.

Does anyone want to start doing some work on this? We've got some good ideas here and I think it would be nice to see something go down on paper (Figuratively speaking of course, but going down on pdf doesn't sound as good).

What do people think? Shall we actually do this? I've got some free time at the moment so I can do whatever needs to be done.

Now as redwood973, mentioned several of the ships are here on the boards already.
So we search through the old posts locate the write-ups,
    spell & math check them,
    post them here for editing,
then beg like the whooped puppies we are for some one with the know how and tech to convert it to a usable PDF (I have nether).

Now we also need to determine weather a design should go into
    Part 1: "Foreign Governments"
    or
    Part 2: "Domestic Fleets"

Not a problem with the last bit. I have Adobe PDF Writer, and several other utilities I can use to create PDF's.

Also, I've got the Database program I created to check all the ships stats.

Shall we create a Yahoo group or something to do all this in rather than clogging up these boards? That way we can store some of the classes in the files section of the group. Just a thought

Ok, I've had a look through the forums and found these.

    For volume 1:

    Gorn D'rothar class here

    Gorn Khis class here

    Gorn S'thorax class here

    Orion Marauder Pirate Vessel here

    Zarian Fireblossom class here

    For volume 2:

    Andorian Atlirith class here

Andorian / Tellerite I'Canya class here

    Vulcan Trillpa class here

Should we also look into doing a compilation of Federation classes from the TrekRPG forum users? There are loads of Federation ships.

    Technologies:

    Ferengi Plasma weapons here

    Research and Development page here

And finally, there are many ship classes at the Daystrom Institute Technical Library here . I might have a go at doing some Spacedock stats for those.

    Gorn

Hey all, in SRM4 the Gorn Battlecruiser is armed with a Narrow Wave Disruptor Cannon. Should all Gorn then be armed with Narrow Wave Disruptors?

Sounds like Flavor Techno-Babble to me, i.e. Cardassian Spiral Wave Disruptors, So I would say yes.

One of the things that I have always wondered about Federation Member World Ships, are they on the exact same technology bases as Starfleet Ships. After all Starfleet is the combination of the best technology from all members. The reason I ask is because I just don't see Vulcan ships being as well armed, or Andor being as safety redundant. You folks understand what I'm saying?

Yeh, I see what you mean Phoenix. I could see Vulcan ships being more aimed at better sensors and so on, whereas Andorian ships being better armed. Shall we try to make some ships like this ourselves?

I'm working on getting my Access Database to output PDF files, I've got everything up to Tactical Systems outputting, should have something concrete in 2 or 3 days. So I'll be able to post decent files. To help testing this, can someone send me a design to output so I can give you an idea of what I have

    Cheers all

    Afternoon all,

I've been working on getting automated PDF files form the ships we come up with.

I've done everything except for the Propulsion and the "Operation Systems" sections. Here's an example of what it's doing. What do people think of this? The example I've used here is the Intrepid class.

    Morning everyone,

I've been doing quite a bit of work here on getting stuff done for the Forum SRM's. My main aim was getting my database working properly so it would automatically output to PDF's. Finally, I've got it sorted.

In the forums here, I've found 3 Gorn Vessels. So I've used those as tests. And the outputs can be found here

    D'rothar class Destroyer here
    Khis class Battleship here
    S'thrax class Cruiser here

This is the format I've got it outputting, easy to read, easy to follow, I think anyway. If anyone has any ideas on how to change this, let me know.

If anyone has any classes they've designed they'd like to see in PDF, let me know, I'll see what I can do.

There are a few ways you can do that. Either tell me where the class is in the forums or somewhere on the net, and I'll write it into the database, and send you back the PDF. Or, as it's quicker for me, you can download the database, write it in yourself, and send me the class. There are instructions on how to do it in the program.

You can download the database in several formats.

    Zip here
    ACE here
    RAR here
    Self extracting ACE here

So whatever you need, you can get it here now.

    Looks good but

Looks good, but do we really want to continue following the SFB model for the Gorn? Particularly since the Gorn Battlecruiser in SRM 4 is armed with a Narrow Wave Disruptor Cannon and Photon Torpedoes. I would hope the SRMs would be consistent.

    Thanks

Ok, I've sorted that problem and updated the PDF's.

Because I've not sorted the DB to do TOS-era ships, I haven't paid much attention to that SRM. (I'm not really a huge fan of TOS).

I've uploaded some other classes, like the 1011 War Horse class and other recent releases in the forums.

    Just go here

Should work there, I'll upload more as I do the PDF's

I have 154 classes in total so far I've picked up from various places.
