The Bannockburn tracks the retreating Deep Star 6 and her unknown captors for about 15 minutes before finally gaining on them.

They are fleeing deeper and deeper into the Jentris Corridor and are making good time. Alas their Warp 6 maximum does put them at the disadvantage.

When you finally get within visual range, what awaits you is quite a surprise. 6 Needle looking ships, no bigger each than one of your nacelles, surround the station, each projecting some kind of energy steam that is interacting with the others, creating an energy net around the station.

Two larger ships, each of a similar design, fly escort with them. Sciences confirms that they have scanned you. They remain jsut outside torpedo range, and no phasers in warp.

The cloaked ship you had tracked at the outset was lsot fairly early on and has not reappeared.

    What are your orders Captain?

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Commander Lloydd, you were doing an inspection of DS6 with the temporary engineering crew assigned and all was going well.

You were alerted that the USS Bannockburn was 13 hours out and you wanted to make sure everything was at peak readiness. As such everyone was working hard.

Two surprises awaited you that day.

1] The arrival of the USS Montior (Larson Class Destroyer) claiming to be ferrying Lieutenant Commander Joseph Kuhns, the XO for DS6. According to your files, Kuhns was not supposed to arrive for at least another day. The Monitor's captain explained it as a quick resolution of a their previous task allowed them to shave the 24 hours off their travel time. Slightly odd but not unheard of. Commander Kuhns beamed over and took over the preparations. Through him the Monitor agreed to provide some extra personel to speed things along.

2] Hours later (after the Monitor had departed for the Gorn border) a small fleet of ships was detected coming in at high warp. Communications were blocked and the station went on alert. They dropped out of warp, surrounded the ship, and deployed their energy-net which disupted all onboard systems. You managed to punch a whole in the jamming and send out a distress call, then an energy surge through the station knocked you out.

You awaken on a cold floor. A bright light is over your head and you feel drained. You are aware of a body close to you. You look and see the unconcious form of Commander Kuhns. He looks rough.

The room is very hot and humid, and you are pretty sure it is one of the empty cargo storage chambers in the B branch of the station. You don't know how long you have been out for.

Deke sat up and performed a brief yogic exercise to cleanse the cobwebs from his mind before rolling onto one knee beside Cmdr. Kuhns. He loosened the senior officer's uniform jacket, checked his pulse and respiration, then examined him for visible injuries.

    OOC: First Aid test to determine extent of injuries = 4 roll + 5 roll - 2 unskilled + 1 INT + 2 edge = 10

Deke removed his uniform jacket, folded it carefully, and placed it beneath Kuhns' feet or head, depending on whether his pulse or breathing was worse.

He then determined whether the comm unit was functioning and the door of the cargo chamber could be opened, before searching within the immediate area for a first aid kit with which to revive his fellow officer.

    OOC: Investigate test to find first aid kit = 6 roll + 4 roll + 5 skill + 2 PER + 2 edge + 1 Conceal affinity + 3 Observe affinity +2 professional ability = 25

    On the Bannockburn.

"Captain... I've got an incoming communciation from the USS Monitor. They say that they are enroute and will arrive ASAP to lend assitance. Shall I send a reply sir?"

"Send my respects to Captain Tierce, and tell him he's welcome to join the party," Grimm replies. "Relay what data we have to the Monitor.

"Mr. Vulson, I need a tactical display that includes the Monitor's and the station's positions and vectors," he orders before turning to Rostoff. "I wonder how many tractor beams we have to knock out to force them to drop the station.

"Feel like testing your people on their PH2231 recall?" the captain asks.

"Maybe we should try contacting the station? They may have information that could help us here. Having the station make a sudden drop out of warp could have serious consequences to those aboard," Rostoff interjects.

Grimm's brow creases slightly. "The station's inertial dampers should more than compensate for drifting to a stop," the captain counters. "But I agree that we should attempt to contact the station. Please get your people to work on that attack plan.

"Mr. Remy," he says turning toward the ops station. "Hail the station on a tight-beam, encrypted channel. Let's see if anyone's home."

As he finishes his order, the captain finds his way to the center chair and takes a seat.

"Aye," he responds and turns to his SOO and together they begin work on a plan to safely release the station from the grips of the unknowns.

McKeown returns a tacit nod to Rostoff, and checks his sensor readings once more for positional data and energy readings.

    Tactics Roll: (16 [12/DD+4] + 8 [6+2 Tactics(Space)] + 3 INT) = 27

    Sensor Roll: (9 + 6 SysOps +3 INT) = 18

Alejandra follows Commander Rostoff over to McKeown's console as they begin formulating plans. She pulls up the sensor readings from the ships accompanying the station, looking for details to help her commander's planning efforts.

System Ops result 18 (8 roll + 7 skill + 2 Int + 1 edge) on the sensors, Tactics result 12 (8 roll + 2 skill + 2 Int) to support Rostoff & McKeown with any useful (for a change) suggestions.

On a sudden thought, she pulls up a star chart of the Jentris corridor (and whatever Starfleet has on space beyond) and checks the course of the unknown ships against the chart, on the offhand chance that it might indicate a destination...

Science: Space (Astrogation) result of 22 (11 roll + 5 skill +2 specialty + 2 Int + 2 edge) to extrapolate their destination.

Having stood at the continually beeping and flashing panel, which had a beat similar to that of some lost Klingon symphony, and about the same level of pleasure and excitement, Savanna will look to the Chief Engineer and asked to be excused, knowing full well that the Tellerite would yet again berate her for being a sniveling human and unfit to stand a watch in his Engineering Room, and prepared herself mentally and physically to head for her quarters to finish out the rest of the long, night, interrupted by some wet-behind-the ears ensign who shouted excitedly because of some anomoly that had been cataloged decades ago but rarely mentioned due to it's minor effect on starship navigation until discovered yet again by that aforementioned newbie.

    Okay fast update before work.

You guys should know I only plan to update once or twice a week, as it gives everyone a chance to play. I don't want to out pace some players in favour of others, trying to be fair all around.

Beyond that I notice everyone likes to decide what rolls they are going to make and then make them. Fiar enough, not normally my tactic, but it works for me enough to keep giving it a try.

See I am open to new ideas

Actually game update in the next couple of days

    - The communication signal is met by a stream of static. White noise? You can't be sure. It could even be communication.

    - Sensor data shows that snapping the old K style station into a dead stop would in fact tear her to pieces.

    - In engineering everyone is working hard. Leaving your post during a red-alert would be considered a dereliction of duty.

    - In 24 hours you will be on the far side of the Jentris corridor.

    - The cloaked ship is not detectable at this time.

    - Long range tactical shows the Montior is on route, but now sensors are picking up Gorn cruisers (3) at extreme long range, heading your way.

Alejandra turns to Commander Rostoff. "Sir, that old station won't survive a sudden drop out of warp; her structural integrity fields just aren't strong enough. Perhaps if we're really careful we could knock those towships out one at a time and force them to slow, or find some other way to bring them out of warp gradually. Warp engineering never was my strongest subject," she adds with a somewhat crooked smile.

Referring him to the starcharts, she adds, "We're on pace to clear the Jentris corridor by this time tomorrow, and there's no telling how we're to tow an entire station back..." She tries to some mass/stress calculations on the station and accompanying starships, but shakes her head in frustration after only a little effort.

Not even going to bother a roll on that one; someone with the propper skills will have to be called in.

And FYI, I'm taking off for some vacation (first break from work this year) this next week. Going to visit the aged relatives, and be away from the net and phones for a while. Catch you all next weekend. If you need Alejandra for anything, just drag her along quietly until I get back.

"Acknowledged. Good work, Alejandra. Just as I feared." Rostoff incorporates this information into his proposal.

    Tactics (Space) - (4+4) + 12 + 2=22
    Science: Physical - (6+3)+7=17

He then makes some quick rough estimates in how long it would take, if even possible, for the Bannockburn and Monitor to tow the station back -- the results are not promising, he'll have to get an engineer's opinion. He makes a call to Savanna Fields. "I need you to analyze how the unknowns are towing the station and let me know if picking them off one by one or some other means would force them to slow down to safely drop out of warp. This is your top priority; I need an answer and soon."
