    Ground vehicles combat ala spycraft

hey everyone. Other than trying to write an adventure with specific advancements in mind I have been playing with another idea to keep coda trek alive.

1st idea was a conversion table for d20 adventures to coda. Basically i feel our worst problem is adventures. I don't really care for adventure seeds or episode ideas. I prefer written adventues with maps , puzzels, etc just like D&D. I think Dave Biggens did great work with the crusoe effect and well really need more of these adventures.

2nd. I have been studying the ESO and think its brilliant but the vehicle combat is off a bit. (no offense just my opinion.) I was toying with the idea of using the spycraft vehicle combat system since it fits very well here and sort of fills a missing gap. Thus I placed my group through a trial run and the result worked flawlessly. Just as we have manuevers for starships we now have manuvers for small cars, boats etc. With words that match those vehicles in maneuvers. The rules are straight out of spycraft but modified to coda. Since this would be free I doubt AEG would care that I type out a conversion for good old star trek.

Just think...now picard can drive fast with the argos and zig zag from lasers or Gun IT, Ram, etc. You could create klingon tanks, hovercars, have officers drive on a pre warp world.

I think the rules of ESO are great for shuttle crafts but for anything on planet we should have the same detail as we do for space combat. I even recommend this as an extension to killer whales work ( I don't think he would mind that his ground vehicle combat got tweeked.) Also you could adapt old FASA adventures that use this sort of thing such as Termination 1475?

    any thoughts?

Don't assume. As long as you are fully aware that you're not in "safe harbor," you'll accept total responsbility for handling AEG's copyrighted material.
    Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

Yes, that does sound interesting, but yes you could fall foul of copywrite issues, so be careful, even if it is a free resource!

Maounvers for ground vehicles should be interesting yes, including the stall manouver, the grinding of clutch and the eratically zigzagging round the road like most Starfleet officers (including Kirk on 'gangster' world ) would do without the nous to work out how to drive some archaic vehicle

    update

I have been slowly working on this due to real life delays. I have examined a few issues:

    1. Spycraft lite was open to the public and as long as its modified to star trek it should not pose any problem (comments, I can't see this as a prob)

    2. It fits the SOM section of vehicle operation to a "T"

    3. I have rexamined killer whales ESO for the 7th upadee time and yes his information on vehicles for the 21 -24 century is great and should be followed. In fact what I am doing is a 20% expansion to his great work so as to include manuvers that fit the 20th century vehicles on down with tweeking to fit the SOM guidlines. I will abolish manuvers that don't make sense that are used now for starship combat (like the a axis, picard manuvere, etc.)

Now if only I could create a module to take advantage of that. frankly I would like to see Dave biggens produce more.

    Thoughts?

AFAIC, both Spycraft Lite (v1.0 and v1.1) are under OGL compliance (see page 2).

AEG may have chose to release/distribute their Spycraft Lite for free, that does not give you the legal authority to re-distribute said Work unless you're complying with OGL (and only re-distributing designated OGC).

Aside from copyright complication, you also have to contend with OGL compliance. Section 7 states you cannot use trademarks (i.e., Star Trek and all trademarks relating to this IP) belonging to someone else (i.e., Paramount) unless you have an agreement with said party.

I reaffirmed my previoius post: do it at your own risk but don't assume you're in "safe harbor."

I guess i will have to make it for personal use.

perhaps i will have modded it so much it won't make a difference

I recommend you write the rules as generically as possible; avoid using any one of Paramount's Star Trek trademarks.

Or simply write it at your own risk. Really, I'm not trying to scare you. Just as long you know where you stand and take full accountability of your action, go for it.
