Talking …Now from the home office in Utopia Planitia, Mars...

The Top 10 Ways that Brannon Bragga can ‘Top Himself’:

    10) 100 gallons of diesel fuel, with whipped cream and a cherry…bomb (lit)
    9) An industrial dump truck load of bricks, all solid lead
    8) Angry/Scared (and trampling) Elephants
    7) Dung, of assorted varieties…why not, he’s been shoveling ‘it’ for years...
    6) His own Ego…that’s gotta’ be one of the heaviest objects on the planet
    5) Sprinkles…half covered in skin absorbable poison, the other half covered by something like Rubidium
    4) An Ocean Tanker, filled with the negative reviews of Enterprise, Star Trek: Insurrection, and ST: Nemisis, along with the unbought products thereof
    3) 100 tons of straw, representing the ‘one’ that broke the fans’ backs
    2) Broken glass shards, dropped on him from a great height
and the #1 way Brandon Bragga can ‘Top Himself’…
    With dirt…preferably a six-foot depth’s worth
...and that's about the time it hit the fan...

    Truisms I know:
    1) Marvel is NOT better than DC (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘ULTIMITED’),
    2) D20 is NOT the best gaming system out there (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘crammed’ into it),
    3) And No matter how ‘THEY’ dress it up, Regardless of how ‘THEY’ title it, and even if ‘THEY’ say “BASED ON…”; “ENTERPRISE” IS NOT STAR TREK!!!
    4) 'Reality' T.V. ain't 'Real'

I'm assuming that you have heard of Manson.

Ok, thanks... (not a memory for names )

Well if that's how some people consider Braga... I'd hate writing for Star Trek.

REG is overstating his arguement just a tad. I certainly don't see Braga in the same light as Charles Manson.

Side note, is invoking Charles Manson a sign of losing an arguement the same way invoking Hitler or the Nazis is? (not meant as political, just being a smart arse)

Simple hyperbole! I see him more like Ted McGinley. If you have a series and you see him as the new regular, you begin sending out resumes.

You are so lucky that political discussion is banned on this board! Election and all!

Well, he's had a good run on FOX's Married ... With Children for several years and currently on ABC's Hope and Faith, which is returning next Fall season.

Look, I'm sure Braga is a good person, but let's face it, he's not good enough to run a Star Trek series. Paramount should reassign him to write the next Mission: Impossible film.

Yeah, but the last MI film wasn't so good either...

It wasn't, but I don't think that was really the fault of writing...to me, the failure of that movie was that it was a vehicle for Tom Cruise, rather than being an MI sequel.

And, that said, it wasn't a horrible movie, either.

Isn't that the same problem that plagued The Last Samurai?

True. It was a lot easier to understand the second movie than the first one.

I still miss Phelp, though (either Jon Voight or the original actor).

I don't know if I can answer that, since I really enjoyed The Last Samurai. It didn't even bother me that Cruise's character survived the battle. (In all honestly, that act kept the movie from being overly depressing in the end.)

MI2 wasn't a labor to watch, but I felt the plot was forced toward Hunt's internal struggles...I felt like I was watching a traditional sports underdog movie at times.

While Hunt was the central character in MI, the others had more involvement in advancing the plot (and I liked the twists and turns, too).

Jon Voight is a good actor...I'm not sure he was at his best in MI, but some of his non-verbal reactions in the movie were quite good.

Sorry for hijacking the thread like that. To get it back on track, while I love how the series has progressed so far, I'd like to see ST: Enterprise shift toward tensions with the Romulans and building of the Federation (more Andorians, more Tellerites, and tell us if the Centaurans are colonists or their own race! ).

If that will happen with someone else in Braga's place, then so be it.

    Not to shift discussion but...

I liked MI2 but more because I loathed the first MI movie. Where they basically spat on the television series. I didn't have so much of a problem with Phelps being the villian it was just that they turned him into such a cartoon-villian that it felt like the writers were disrespecting the television series in order to elevate Hunt/Cruise into the starring role.

I have no problem with the "passsing of the guard" but not at the expense of destroying the original, time-honoured character.

Back to your regularly scheduled Trek discussion...

I'm wary and weary of giving Braga yet another chance. I'm trying so hard to be an unforgiving person.

I just hope that they will get off the main arc (TCW). And I mean, no more getting visitor from the future advising and guiding (in one word, "meddling") Archer & Co. to getting on-track with the Birth of the Federation.
