    Starship Range penalties to hit

What are the base to hit's for each range increment? Is it the same as for personal ranged combat?

There are none. Penetration is reduced (in most cases).

So it's JUST the shield protection and other modifiers. Wow. No wonder I couldn't find it anywhere - I suppose it's the same for sensors as well?

Thanks by the way. I appriciate the help!

Not exactly. While there isn't a range penalty for sesnors, the bonus that sensors give is reduced by range.

In the NG (Page 139) the bonus at Point Blank range is equal to the sensor rating (Class 2 sesnors are +2, Class 3 +3, etc.), and it drops by 1 point per range band, but not lower that +0.

The sensor table in STARSHIPS (page 10) is the same except for the addtion of the "a" models of Sensors. These types have the same stats are the normal models except that they cost 1 space more, have 1 letter poorer reliability, but get the double letter code for reliabilty (so while Class 3 Sensors cost 3 spaces, have a bonus of +3/+2/+1/0/0, and a reliability code of D, Class 3a sensors would cost 4 spaces, have a bonus of +3/+2/+1/0/0, and a reliability code of CC).

Note that this reflects the ship's lateral (short range) sensors, the ones used in combat. Long Range Sensor use is different.

For long range use the range bands are changed to 1ly/2ly/3ly/5ly/6ly for high resoultion scans, or 3ly/5ly/10ly/15ly/20ly for "standard" resolution scans (but these only get half the sensor bonus).
