The Andorians in TOS, DS9, and ENT seem different. Now, I can deal with it because not all humans are the same, nor Vulcans. How would you give a description of the blue race? Remember to categorize them by series. You may want to include YOUR understanding of FASA, SFB, LUG, Decipher interpretation of our antennaed allies.

Um, when did Andorians ever appear in DS9?

Most depictions of Andorians have been fairly consistent, given the advances in makeup technology. The only real clunkers were the ones in STTMP (skinny antennae with no "cups" on the end) and Lal's hologram in TNG (green? - if Data hadn't said it was supposed to be an Andorian, nobody would ever have recognised it).

DS9 = Andorians found in the recent "Worlds of Deep Space Nine" series the Andor novella in volume one.

Well, in TOS they seem more stoic than ENT where it seems they have...uh...pardon me ladies...uh...PMS ALL the time. But then again over the last four decades, I've known some humans like that too...not just females either.

Feh. Star Trek novels. Waste of trees, IMNSHO. Hasn't been one worth using as toilet paper in many many years.

The way I look at it is that ENT Andorians are fighting a bit of a cold war with the Vulcans, so a certain amount of anger in an already emotional people is to be expected. Humans have cold rage, vulcans supress it, and Andorians like to bring it out in the open? By the TOS era, the Vulcan-Andorian antipathy has more or less been ironed out (due to Human diplomacy possibly, as the series tend to be Humanocentric). So, Andorians then are more stoic and 'in-control'.

FASA Andorians are emotional, stoic, militant and strong. Vulcans are logical, stoic, scientific and strong. They two extremes of the spectrum, with Humans being the middle ground. Easy to see how any conflict might occur, given that Vulcans supress emotion and Andorians embrace it. It made for great roleplaying the last time I played ST. I was Andorian and one of the other guys was a Vulcan. I was Science Officer, and he was Tactical Officer. We always 'helped' on each others mission specific tasks.

For the most part I agree with you. But don't worry, I didn't waste any trees, just read the caption over at Amazon, and figured someone else had read it. TOS man myself. But I do need toilet paper!

Ice, if you've read the Andor novella, can you state your view of the novella's Andorians? Without spoilers please.

Another way to look at Andorians and Vulcans is that they share many belifs and even a similar environment... the arctic is a desert, just a cold one. They also have a very similar history, and even a somewhat similar method of resolving the violence of their past.

The LUG Vulcan and Andorian books are really great, with history and cultural notes on both races.

Problem is:

1. That the only time we see an Andorian (IIRC in Journey to Babel) its not really an Andorian but an Orion in disguise. It is likely, though that the Orion was doing a half-decent job of impersonating an Andorian since no one really knew he was a fake for most of the episode.

2. The Andorian being impersonated was a diplomat, and I think that probably the diplomats would deal with others different than a member of the Andorian Imperial Guard.

3. Shran and the Imperial Guard may not be the ideal members of the Andorian species. The Imperial Guard seem to be trained to be very overprotective of their empire, leading them to be a bit xenophobic. Add to that the tensions with the Vulcans, its natural to assume that Shran would be better uptight with humans (whom he assumes are a pawn of the Vulcans)

4. The Andorian in TOS, forgetting that he was an Orion impersonator, was also a member of the Federation. Concidering how much Vulcans changed in 100 years between ENT and TOS, its not surprising that Andorians might have softened a bit too.

Actually, in Journey to Babel, there was the Orion impersonator, and the Andorian Ambassador, Shras. There was another Andorian seen in Whom Gods Destroy , but given that he was a psychiatric inmate in the Elba II facility, I think we can disregard him as being representative of the species...
