So is Donald Duck, but that's beside the point...

I'm happy that James Doohan gets a star.
Antonio Banderas, Tom Brokaw? What; do people who want a star simply apply for one and then pay a nominal amount of cash? Then just about anyone could get a star!
Oh! That IS the way the stars are given out!

It's more than that.
Although I'm surprised only now they got around to him. So which of the TOS cast does not have a star yet?
Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

Hmmmm....this'll probably get me flamed, but....
Errr....does James Doohan actually deserve a Star? I don't mean to belittle him, but apart from Scotty, what has he done that merits mentioning. As for the rest of the stars, do they merit one too (esp. when you consider the illustrious stars that are already have a Star).
I am not being disrespectful, but are the stars of Star Trek worthy enough?
Just a question
Cheers

The site listed above says that the person has to be nominated and the nominating person has to put up $15,000. I watch a British documentary on Steve Martin where he disputed the nomination part. He said it was nice to have a star but didn't mean as much as everyone thought it did.
James Doohan as Scotty is an American icon. Try and find someone who doesn't know what "Beam me up, Scotty" means.
Sadly, if it really was for stars, there would probably be less than 100. Some where along the line, the difference between star and actor got blurred.
Tas, you should start a thread about who should have stars.

Whether or not someone "deserves" a star is likely to be a matter of opinion. The fact that there are so many argues that they're not all that hard to get. So it's not like awarding one to an "undeserving" recipient somehow waters the whiskey. I'll bet if you looked at who has them, you'd find dozens of folks you don't think deserve them. Hell, if the Olson twins qualify, then Doohan surely does.
Hey the Olsen twins are hot.
I'd have to have quite a bit of scotch in me to think Jimmy Dohan is hot. (Naturally I'd take my Scotch neat like Scotty)
"Get a life will you people? I mean, for crying out loud it's just a TV show! I mean look at you, look at the way you're dressed. You've turned an enjoyable little job that I did as a lark for a few years into a colossal waste of time. I mean how old are you people, what have you done with yourselves. You, you must be almost 30, have you ever kissed a girl?" - William Shatner on SNL
So how did this get started? Who got the first stars, and how did they get them?

I'm pretty sure LeVar Burton and DeForest Kelley got their stars more for their non-Star Trek work. Kelley was a movie and TV actor long before Trek came out, and I believe Burton's positive work on Reading Rainbow (and possibly Roots) earned him his star.Originally posted by Tas II
