Can you believe it?

They've brought out "The Jean-Luc Picard" collection on DVD.

    http://www.imdb.com/

Seven "Jean-Luc" definitive episodes, which are:

The Big Goodbye

Sarek

Family

The Drumhead

Darmok

The Inner Light

Tapestry

Now that's all fine and dandy...but how on Earth could the "essential Picard" have left out Best of Both Worlds I & II??

Sorry...I can't believe it. I mean...The Big Goodbye?? It's hardly definitive of Picard.

*sigh* (I've got the whole series on DVD, mind you, so I'm not overly concerned anyway...but it just strikes me as bizarre that they'd leave out what is possibly the most character-changing episodes of Picard's life)
When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for others.

It's the same when you are stupid...

Chain of Command, Parts I and II represents some of Stewart's finest Trek acting, IMO. Not present on the set.

Of course, they had to decide how many episodes, and they had to decide which ones then. Two parters can be problematic because if someone doesn't like that story, it takes up two "slots" on the disc, leaving them feeling cheated.

But I think one of these pairs should have been present.

Another possibility is that other themed sets are planned, and a Borg set would be incomplete without BoBW 1&2.

BOBW will probably be in a Borg boxed set. If they're doing one targeted set, they'll be doing others. Probably a Q set as well...

It's decent marketing, when you think about it. Don't want to buy all the season boxed sets, but you're a Worf fan? A set with, say, The Emissary, Sins of the Father, Parallels, Birthright I & 2, etc. would be aimed atbyou.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was there a Eurpoean version that included BOBW?

    @Space_Cadet:

As far as I remember there wsa the exact same Picard Box out in Europe, but there is a six DVD set called "The Next Generation - Movie Box". There you find all the two-part episodes, inlcuding the before mentioned BoBW and Chain of Command I & II.

Could that be the box, that you have seen?

Of course you should remember that, at least in Region 2, all TNG 2-parter episodes were covered in their own seperate box set alonside the standard series release on This This should cover those great episodes.

Whic means that the Picard collections, and presumably collections for the other characters are just there to milk the franchise for all those people that felt unwilling to spend £70 a pop for the box sets (or even £30-40 in the sales now, as I am slowly building them).
