    Post The new series (continued)

The other topics related to that were a bit long, so I thought I'd start a new one.

So ... George Takei (Sulu) was in Paris, this evening I believe (I'm not sure if the show was live), on an TV show dedicated to TV series.
He said that his proposal to make a new series based on Captain Sulu on the Excelsior had just been rejected by Paramount cause they had decided to do a prequel with ... dang, can't recall the name ... guy who used to time leap and look like other ppls in mirrors and talk to a weird looking hologram/man ... as the lead actor. He looked a bit disappointed and did not seem to like the idea of a prequel.

So ... I guess it's official ... or maybe everyone knew this already but me ... I'm always the last one to be told what's going on mumble mumble mumble ...

Do you know when it will be aired again?

As far as I know no one really knows what it will be, however some rumors point to an official statement this week or not much later.

    Yes! Yes, that's him .

I did like him when he was playing the "always a bit lost time leaping hero, with an advisor who always came up with the vital info when it was (nearly) too late" ... but I have difficulties to imagine him as a Starship captain ... time will say.

He seems to me like a great Starfleet captain. Especially for the beginning of Starfleet. So how long until we see Braxton beam him to the future?

Last I heard from Cinescape Online and Sci-Fi Wire that Scott Bakula -- known for his role in Quantum Leap -- may not come aboard the next Trek series due to a scheduling conflict.

What do y'all think the opener will be like? Maybe show the Upsilon Andromedae system or one of the others that have been discovered. Maybe the theme song can be the Original Series one... with the words! I hate those lyrics personally. Think there'll be a "Space, the Final Frontier" monologue? Maybe a new monologue?

I love Quantum Leap. "Al" was my fav character. The actor also played in the "Langoliers", and a few other movies, oh yea "McHale's Navy". Hope this helped. I don't see him as a starship captain either.

Actually Al was played by Dean Stockwell. Bakula played Sam Beckett. Dean Stockwell was in a scene of the original Dune movie, standing next to Patrick Stewart. Bakula played Amahl in an opera called Amahl and the Night Visitors when he was a kid. It would be interesting if Captain Archer sings, but that's been done before with the EMH.

On the matter of the scheduling conflict, I read on SciFi.com that the reason for this was due to the fact that Bakula (sp?) was working on another TV pilot. However, the article went on to state that the contract for that other TV show was open-ended, in case the negotations with Paramount went well. Apparently, Bakula really want's to do a Star Trek show.

As for my two cents on Bakula, I loved him in Quantam Leap, but the other things I've seen him in (mostly Master of Illusions, or what ever that horrible movie was called) I wasn't too impressed with. So, I have kind of mixed feelings about this. But, I will just have to wait and see.

Actually Cochrane he payed Dr. Yeui(sp) and had many good scenes in the movie. He was also in another David Lynch classic Blue Velvet and many, many more films. Check IMDB for his career, it will surprise and impress

Yeah, I didn't watch much of that movie. I was very young at the time, and it was very boring. Maybe if I hadn't seen that movie, I would have later read the novels.
