    Stupid Question

How different is the CODA system from the system that is in use with the ST:TNG game originally put out by LUG?

They're written by the same authors except with some D20ish mechanics thrown in.

I use the ICON system, so take this with a grain of salt. But, from the stuff I seen posted here on these boards they are very diffrent! Hearing how characters are created in CODA, the CODA system sounds very complicated.

I've used both. They're similar, but different. Each has strengths and weaknesses.
ICON (the LUG system) had a very realistic (IMHO) approach to characters skills, but was limited to a max stat of 6 (not a lot of variety in the PCs NPCs stats). Starship combat is also more complex (but again more realistic).
CODA had taken a broader, less realistic (again MHO) approach to skills, but has expanded the max stat up to 12 (more variety).
Both are d6 systems and have dramatic success and failure mechanics. Both are experience point based, but while ICON is buy-as-you-go, CODA requires you to wait until you've accumulated a set amount (not an ever-increasing level system).
CODA also incorporates "professions" with professional skills and abilities that are either more expensive or practically impossible for indivuals of other professions to obtain.
As I said. Pluses and minuses. I've enjoyed playing both, but that could be because of the plots my narrator's come up with.
