I'm not sure you're going to get many more votes, and the deadline is closing - deadline = dead website ! So I think if you're going to act it better be soon!

I don't have the time or knowledge to take over, but I've got wads of flight pay and combat pay looking for a home, so I'll offer financial support to anybody who wants to run the site.

Lack of money and knowledge have been preventing me from voting, but if we need the 100 votes I'll add mine.

Don, not all of us were jumping ship...simply having a back-up plan...just in case. Sorry if any of that offended you.

There is just so much archived here I still use for when I run LUGtrek. I know most of it is mirrored at Memory Alpha, but the way everything is organized here is just so much easier for me. So yeah, I'd be in favor of someone picking it up. Wish I could, but I'm still trying to pull my life together after a series of downfalls for the past year.

    Ditto from me.

And, also, what Phoenix said with some addendum.

You're a great guy, Don, I've had a hell of a good time hanging out here in the past, talking to everyone. Trading barbs, trading opinions. I still don't know quite what to say to you, so I've postponed one of those farewell speeches till I can find the words. Words have always been hard for this poor Aspergers sufferer to find.

    No harm was intended. Sorry.

I second that as the ultimate option, if everything else doesn't work out. Costs/traffic would be minimal but the site would still help the community to find each other.

It's teribly nice of Matt to take on the expense and al, but it's relying on one person to host our site. It wasn't fair on Dan, and certainly before now he was looking at ways to fund his 'habit' but I feel it's not fair to put that pressure on someone else now. Purchasing the domain name is 'cheap' but not for whoever has to host the site!

I would like to see this site continue. Heck, some of my best writing appears on this site.

I admit I haven't been here much, so I'm a little blindsided by this news.
If Don is going to stop running this site and is willing to sell, I hope somebody buys it.
If somebody buys it, I hope they turn out to be good at the job and cool. If they turn out to be a big jerk, ... it would be no worse than the site closing. From my end, there is nothing to lose in the sale.

    One more thing:

    SAVE THE ARCHIVES!

If Don wants to close the site, then I am sad to see it go but I understand.
If everybody (or most folks) can agree on a new forum to inhabit, then in a sense the board lives! Whether or not the old URL will redirect to the new home matters little to me, just be sure to tell me where we move to if we move. (Ferengi Blue Room seems to be the place.)

But if there is any way at all to transport the archives to any new home we may find, that is something I would really like done.
As I said, some of my best work appears on these boards. There is good gaming stuff here, and also tons of analysis/discussion of the trek universe and trek in general. I'd hate to see it all go up in smoke.

In the meantime, I'll be backing up as much of my own stuff as I can.

    Now I am confused.

And wish I had both ability and funds to make you the offer.
The offer I made was to the community here -- To purchase the site and domains on their behalf. If there is no community support for the site does not make sense for me to purchase the site from Don, hence this poll and make to this community a proposal at the Ferengi Blue Room where many have move and it was suggest to me when I contacted someone who made an inquiry of Don. I have since been in contact with Don.

Apparently, the server will be shut down either because of Don's choice or because of the host company's rules.

I've thought about this a bit over the last few days, and I'd really hate to see this place go. While I don't believe I could afford to keep the place running by myself, I would be willing to participate in a group effort, perhaps with another two or three people to keep the place running. Would anyone be interested in doing so?

I send in an offer to Don for the Site but please continue to vote. It is a good way to measure support for the site and therefore what to do with it.

There have been over 800 view of this thread/poll, I can not believe it is just those that have voted or voice opinions on this thread. If you are visiting this thread, you must have some opinion on what to do, so please vote.
