Just a small update on what is happening behind the scenes about the new web site.

We have decided to not wait for the DocMan module anymore. spshu have figured out a way to build the menus so it is useful to us. Tobian is trying to squeeze in some time to built the template and I am working with some of the options to integrate the CMS with vB. I am also working with a plan B in case we get stuck again.

In short, work are proceeding, but we are not quite there yet.

The website have been in a bit of limbo since the database crash earlier this year. But hopefully, I will be able to find some time to put the server back in order (will do a complete reinstall and rebuild on it) and move everything back there, including the old website and the new site.

The new site was at the time set up to replicate the old site to its look and feel. So quite a few that I asked did not notice that the real old site was moved, until I specifically pointed that out. The reason for this was that only about 25% of the pages had been converted to the internal format of TYPO3.

We did mainly look at the Mambo/Joomla track first. spshu had even converted almost all of the pages to there.

But unfortunately, Mambo/Joomla is not flexible enough, unless we decide to give up on LotR. While that part of the forums have been very quiet, it is still not something I want to give up on.

To sum it up... The website will return. Just that building the new website have been taking a lot longer than anticipated.

As I said over in the "The End is Here" Thread, I think that this are indeed good news in your posts, Capt. Lundgren.

I'm very thankful that you and the guys are putting so much work and time into this project, no matter how long it takes...

And might I add, that keeping the LotR parts intact would be a very welcome move! Although quiet, they belong here...

    Another short update

Will be a little bit longer until I move everything back to the "real" server. A tooth infection and some complications around that (and some other things) have required my attention elsewhere. I will see a specialist on friday, as my normal dentist found out that he couldn't complete the job. But currently, it is only my wallet that are in pain, and that doesn't count

Current guestimate for the return of the website is the first weekend after new year.

That guestimate sounds really great, Magnus! Thanks for the heads-up.

On a more personal note: Get well soon. Toothpain can really be a pain in the a**.

Hope your specialist can take care of your problem, without taking everything out of your wallet. Have some nice christmasdays anyway!

    All the best to you.

Gah, well get well soon, and don't panic, though it will be cool when it's all back and up and running in all it's glory again!

    Time for another random update...

Moved the Star Trek Chat and the Lord of the Ring Chat, and implemented the recoding to present the LotR template as the default one when visiting through forum.lotr-rpg.net.

But I noticed that some text on the LotR template was very hard to read, when viewed on one of my monitors. So if there anyone with both available time and an artistic sense, I would very much appreciate if that someone would go over both the Trek and the LotR tempate

The problem with the increased bandwidth usage was identified as a missed setting. So everything is back to normal there.

So besides the preparations for an upgrade of the forum software, possible on Sunday, it is time to focus a bit on the website again.

Yeah I am not a fan of that template, I find it hard on the eyes too. I will have a look at it, when my computer gets un-broken - oops

Server software updated. Forum upgraded. Database files moved to a new partition... A good use of a days vacation

    Some new functions
    • Possible to have user created groups with its own public message forum (currently set to public only)
    • Possible to leave a message on profiles
    • A lot of new functions that can be activated for the profiles (User Albums and a more options for profile information fields)

Quite sure that I have managed to find all broken images for buttons and icons. But if I have missed any, just point them out

Thanks as always Magnus for your hard work. My computer is back from the shop, I managed to pull out the power wire LOL

So I might get something done, once I have done my own site!

Forgot about those tags. Yes, those can be quite useful. To my understanding, they are created through the admin-tools. But I don't know if they are per sub-forum, or global.
