    MISSION
Weighing in at a relatively modest 3,250,000 metric tones, the bortaS pawIl' is the flagship of the secretive house H’joQ and usually the last thing an enemy will see before its destruction. Designed to be a maneuverable and deadly warship, the bortaS pawIl' is usually deployed with an escort of smaller cruisers, destroyers, and scouts, for which it acts as a master-fire control and command vessel, typically two Vor’cha-Class Battleships, and two wings of the house’s advanced cruisers, such as the E-7 “Devastator” Class Attack Cruiser, and the E-4 “Hunter” Destroyer. This class serves as flagships for the H’JoQ fleets, and is used in direct assault missions as well as other missions that the H’JoQ may have. It’s distinctive appearance, rendering in Parkerized black hull plating, highlighted in crimson, renders the ships profile as a very intimidating sight and many enemies have been known to break and run at the sigh of the vessel.

    FEATURES
While not the largest vessel in the Klingon Fleet, the bortaS pawIl' represents cutting edge design from the premier engineering House of the Empire, and as such when it has been observed in battle, it has given all enemies reason to give pause for thought. Unlike the Negh’Var, which the H’joQ consider somewhat primitive and unimaginative in design, the H’joQ flagship is designed to be highly maneuverable for a craft of it’s size and pack a devastating punch with it’s varied munitions. As such, it weighs considerably less that it’s larger competitor and carries less cargo and troops, while using the same power generators that the Negh’Var, giving it excess power to utilize when needed.
While slightly less armed than the Negh’Var, the bortaS pawIl' makes up for this with far more powerful and advanced disrupter salvos. Much to the misery of it’s opponents (particularly the Cardassians) the H’joQ have constructed a Klingon version of the Cardassian spiral wave disrupter and have integrated into some of their ships of the line, making for an unpleasant surprise for an opponent. To make matters worse, they have instituted a variable weapons package to be carried on each warship. Most opponents are not sure if they will be hit with standard (if powerful) photon torpedoes, or more exotic pulse wave torpedoes, or perhaps advanced anti-matter spreads. In addition, the ship usually carries a small flight of fighters in it’s aft shuttle bay to give it a measure of self protection and long rang strike capacity.
The class’s operations systems reflect the H’joQ frame of mind: advanced, yet dependable. The life support systems aboard the vessel are not as redundant as the Negh’Var, but this is not seen as a particularly large problem as the crew compliment is considerably smaller. The ships tractor beams are useful to hold vessels in place when the ship engages in pinpoint barrages or saturation strikes with it’s pulse wave armaments to take down an enemy ships shields before the H’joQ send over boarding parties. Of note, the ships sensor systems are equivalent of many Starfleet vessels, with emphasis on electronic warfare and intelligence (which would give the Federation cause for alarm if they knew).
Perhaps most alarming to opponents is the maneuverability and speed of the class. Given the considerable lesser mass of the vessel and the size of it’s warp and power generation systems, the ship’s impulse and relativistic maneuvering systems have more than adequate power to allow for high speed strikes and sudden maneuvers which most opposing ship’s captains would claim are ‘insane’, but are actually well within the classes design tolerances.

    BACKGROUND
The first of this particular class was designed at the Torah III shipyards, an out of the way shipyard in the H’joQ territories, well away from prying eyes and under heavy guard. The empire had arisen from the Duras-Gowron factional war and Gowron had demanded a newer and more powerful flagship for the Empire than the Vor’cha-class, not to mention himself. While some approved of the request for a new and powerful flagship for the Empire, the senior leadership of the H’joQ knew a fool when they saw one. And designed a house battleship that would be more than able to match the Negh’Var if push ever came to shove.
Launched in 2372, the class had seen relatively little combat (that the H’joQ will speak of) until the time of the Dominion War. Attempts at invasion of H’joQ territory were brutally repulsed by the H’joqs fleet and the bortaS pawIl' class proved more than capable of crushing Dominion/Cardassian invaders fleets with it’s escort fleets. As command ships or large and particularly heavy assault ships, the vessels proved capable of fighting ‘above their weight’, and have garnered many shouts of approval (or dismay) from the Empire. Their true public debut was at the Battle of Cardassia Prime, as a sizable fleet of Dominion vessels, including one of the feared Dominion Jem’Hadar Battleships engaged the Allied forces. The H’joQ ships slipped in from all sides as they decloaked and mercilessly hammered the battleship with broadsides of pulse wave torpedoes and spiral wave disrupters, obliterating the massive vessel, while suffering minimal losses, but eventually turning back the Dominion fleet to Cardassian Prime.

A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

Interesting background though when I hear of spiral-wave disruptors and pulse-wave torpedos I tend to think of Cardassians more then Klingons.

I don't use CODA so I rarely comment on the designs. I suspect that a similar reason is why few of my SD designs get commented on. But I am sure there are more then a few that have taken this design to use in their campaigns without commenting on it.

    Talking

actually, the spiral wave disruptors and other weapons are listed because the H'joQ stole the templates. They are nothing if not pragmatic. And it gives a very painful suprise for the enemy to be smacked with something they aren't expecting.

Heh! Cute. Have you tested the design in actual combat play?

Not having CODA Trek I can't comment on the stats of the bird but I love the pic you linked to for it. I'm going to have to pass that on to the GM of my next Trek game, if there's no objection.

What I can read about the design from your flavour text below the stat block I can say I like the design philosophy behind it, its exactly the kind of ship I'd want to be commanding: a ship who's appearances and origins create an expectation of one thing and then gleefully throws something else at you. Not something I'd expect to see from the Klingons, though you covered that largely by having it made by the H'joQ House which really just adds to the nifty value.

Interesting site, not to mention some rather unique concept designs there.

*bump* Also debating what to do now that Klingons will be released as an E-book

I'd say: Don't bother just yet about that. That feels like being a long way down the road yet and so you can build a lot of new fun ships before any eBook gets published.
