    USS Taurus (IMAGE)

The unofficial LUG TOS book mentions a USS Taurus cruiser that is roughly the Enterprise's contemporary. The description sounded familir, but I didn't really catch it until I started putting it together. It's pretty dang close to a prominant SFB cruiser!

Any.. it's pretty much done. Looks good from the front and top, but ... not so hot from the port or starboard sides, though...

    RE :Taurus

Small suggestion, might help with the side view.

You may want to raise the warp nacelles so they are closer to the top or so they are dead-center with the saucer's midline.

I'll probably revisit the Tarus completely, though, and use the Locknar as more of a base in how this ship's designed. I do think that you're right about the location of the warp engines, though, either way. As they are, they look decidedly off on the side profile.

Loknar has always been my favorite FASA ship.

The Taurus looks a lot like the old Antares class. Can't find the pic right now...I think it is at ex-scientia's website somewhere...or linked off of it.

Yeah, the old one looked a lot like an SFB ship, which may have been that 'Antares' class. I just never was happy with that look, though it matches LUG's description.

Anyway, finally got around to redoing the lines today, basing it more on the Locknar, as I said, though keeping with what LUG described.

Yes, it raised an eyebrow when I read that line "the unofficial LUG TOS" book. What are you referencing by that statement?

I think they are refering to the fanbook available at MemoryICON.

It's in the Ship Recognition Manual No. 4 (TOS), in the Spacedock section of the Memory: ICON site.

Thanks Owen. *grin* Focusing too much on the Dominion War era on my part I think.

Yeah, sorry guys, that's the book to which I was referring. I'm still not sure if it's a 'LUG' book or not, or what the relationship everyone involved has there -- so I just refer to it as 'unofficial LUG book'.

*chuckle* Okay TFVanguard. Though it might cause less confusion to refer to the Spacedock SRMs as the "blank" SRM. Granted, I am sure that would confuse those not familiar with the works but I doubt there are that many here that are unfamiliar with Steve Long's Spacedock and the additional SRMs.

The TOS-SRM then? So many acronyms...

Anyway, what is the 'official' status on that book anyway? I'm not remotely clear on this, as some sites swear that it's just short of 'canon' and others dismiss them out of hand. Personally, I like some ideas, but they've got some goofy things in there...

Well given that Spacedock was intended to go to print as LUG's book before they folded, I think most of us that followed the LUG-line, Spacedock, Steve Long and the other writers for LUG would consider it canon for the LUG-verse along with most of the material that never made it to print that these writers have on their own time shared with us.

People's attitude probably vary most based upon the LUG/CODA and Simple/Detailed preference as to where they consider these works and others. In the end, the choice for whether it is official comes back to the individual GM and his group as to what their preference may be.

Okies, that's more or less what I was looking for. I don't follow Okuda's version of 'canon', for instance (recently invalidated anyway), and there are other aspects of TOS that I like to focus upon. I really just wanted to get a feel for where to 'rank' the LUG material.

Sounds like 'on average with FASA' more or less works here, then.
