    SF Trivia thread

I'll ask a question regarding an obscure SF trivia fact - whoever gets the answer right gets to ask the next one.

In the 1966 book Make Room! Make Room! by Harry Harrison, later make into the Charlton Heston movie Soylent Green, what is Soylent Green made of?

    GO!

Ok well I have a vast and extensive knowledge of obscure technobabble, so sorry it's going to be Trek

Q: What type of life form were the Nacene 'Caretaker' and 'Suspiria', seen in Startrek: Voyager.

Ah, but you can't ask a question, because you weren't correct. The plot of the movie was considerable different from the novel, and soylent green was NOT people...

    So there.

Hmm. You should have pointed out that the film was based on the novel then, as the implication in the text was it was one and the same.. I retract the question.

Ah, but the question was very specific - in the book, what is it made of?

soylet red was made out of vegatable/plant matter

Not specific enough. The material that soylent (all colours, actually) is made from is specifically identified, but yes, it comes from a plant source - which plant(s), though?

Mr. Burke is correct! Soy(beans) + lent(ils). The colour coding indicated the grade and probably flavouring. The silly subplot about it being reprocessed human flesh in the movie was incredibly silly, but then it was a Chuck Heston potboiler.

Doug gets to pose the next question...

"Oh my god Soylent green is Soya and bean curd".. could well have been one of the worst anticlimaxes in a film ever

If Tobian is sticking with the Caretaker/Suspiria question, they are Sporecystian lifeforms.

I wasn't going to, but since my ears are bleeding from trying to think of something obscure enough, and you go the answer right (sp? Sporocystian) I think I'll hand in my crown and let you think up the next one

I hit the "How can I come up with something that's not easilly searchable on Google" wall

    have fun!
