Vulcan Database (Wiki-ish web program)-Beta, Alpha, whatever test

For the last couple of weeks, I've been working on a little project, specifically an open content web site like wikipedia. Like wikipedia, it allows users to add entries, like stats for worlds or starships, on the internet and permitting others to edit the content, if you wish so. So at the moment, I'm looking for all you gamers to give it a whirl and provide any feedback. The program is pretty self-explantory but if you have any questions post it here or email me space.cadet1@gmail.com. Another thing, the emailing of your password if you have forgotten is disabled cause of server restrictions. If everything goes well with this project, I'll move it to a different server in a month or so, with added modifications from your feedback and such. If it doesn't work out, it was worth a try. One final note, this is just a testing phase, so if in case of loss or stolen data, it is beyond me. Have fun!

Hmm, you may want to rethink the layout a little, as it's going to be quite inflexible for inputing data, and readability could be an issue.. yellow text on a red background :S - that all said it shouldn't be too hard to tweak the skin, assuming this has a backend database (The code looks to be asp?).

But as an idea it's really cool! it should help people to put in their on designs in a single index.

Thanks for pointing that out. I think might reconsider the layout a bit. As you probably know, I'm an Enterprise fan and I'd like to use the layout interfaces of the current Trek. The look of it based on Vulcan control panel i saw on an Enterprise episode, hence the geometeric shapes and yellow on red. But i''ll keep in that mind and decide whether i want to change it up a bit or use the interface from the nx-01. Thanks again for the feedback.

Hmm I see where you're going there, but I can't see a literal translation being very practical.. I love LCARS but it's a layout meant to be used for steering a starship, or displaying an engineering diagnostic, and isn't friendly with 21st century computers

Perhaps instead you could use that concept as your splash page and reuse elements of it in the interface, or use it somehow as the menuing system, on the side? It shouldn't take up so much of the screen realestate. it also has practivcal limitations for differing screensizes. I run my work screen in 1024X768 - which coped fine, but smaller or larger screens would have scrolling or a small design floating on the page. You could build the page using Flash, so it stretches to fit, but then that can have problems with search engines etc (though it would print nicer) - and it would be nice to have a 'printer friendly' option too.. especially because these are game resources - lots of red and yellow ink :S (though that can be a seperate 'printer friendly' option, as many sites do anyway).

I'll keep that in mind Tobian or I might just resort to the 22nd version of LCARS.
