Red Squad

In the DS 9 episode with the USS Valiant we saw some cadets from the academy. Sense the Defiant class takes 40 crew, we can assume that many on board were probably cadets with about 10 officers or less supervising them...

Now that gives us a range for Red Squad. 40.

How many does it actually have? What do we have an idea for years of how many people and what they are as far as class standing... Are they only juniors and above? All years?

Whats your take?

As Nog was only a first year cadet, trying to get in to Red Squad - I'd say it's open to the top of the class from all four cadet years.

Wasn't Nog already a Ensign by then? And he wasn't a cadet at the time anyway... At least he wasn't supposed to be, he just was still in his head in a way.

But Nog had been trying to get into Red Squad earlier in the series. I don't recall the exact episode, but I recall Nog asking Sisko if he would recommend him to Red Squad. Nog was a first year cadet at the time, which would suggest that Red Squad was open to the best and brightest from all four years.

I'd estimate it to be about 2% of the academies enrollment. Anyone know the enrollment?

That's another bloody good question, sense we know the fleet is really quite large and there are plenty of folks out in the fleet that aren't on ships. I would guess that the freshman class is around 1500. Anyone have the ICON boxed set?

Did a quick glance at my Academy Box set. I didn't find anything that gave a specific number of cadets. So far this is the most telling piece of information I found:

HOUSING
The Academy officers cadets a variety of housing options, including small dormitory halls of approximately 100 students and larger halls (ranging from 400 to 600 cadets).
