Thread: Star Trek Ship Generator Beta 6.2

  1. #31
    OK, here we go:

    Printing
You can print via the "print" dialogue, which is located on the upper side of the programme, the button with a printer on it.

    1) Enter a filename
    2) Since the program does not save to the HD, copy the content of the field and paste it into a txt file. Will be fixed in the next version
    3) As far as I can tell, printing is complete, although not beautiful.

    Bugs
With the 6.2 version (which I downloaded from the site here, so it's the same version as yours), I can successfully load and save everything. Even the SIFs etc. Could you please send me the file which does not load correctly via e-mail (zortianderATgmx.net) or append it here to an entry of yours?

I've opened a new post to regroup the information from here in a clearer way. Answer where you wish, I follow both.

I know it's been six years but any further development?

Well the funny thing about such threads is how they suddenly turn up from the dead.

Honestly, I haven't dabbled in programming for quite a long time and especially not on this old programme. I still have the source codes, though.

Maybe over the Holidays I'll have a look at it and see whether I can find my old Beta 7 files again (currently I'm stuck at the 6.2 sourcecode, which was quite substantially developed further, though). And if I do, let's see if I can have a swing at it.

Concretely, though, what are you missing? Besides the many bugs?

OK, so I still have the Beta 7 code and I have now the latest RAD studio available. I delved into the Beta 7 code and saw that it greatly evolved from Beta 6, which is nice. The programme runs under Windows 7 64 bit, so that's nice too.

I have some work to do, mainly the save / load system which is no longer working in Beta 7. Once that is done I'll publish Beta 7 here, so you get at least a better looking version.

Beta 7 is done, you have the download of the programme and the sources in the very first post.

It's nothing big or new, just the old changes and the finalized save system.

Sweet. There were a few things in 6.2 that seemed to be missing. Mostly the addons and a few details of some of the equipment like the transporters and warp engines.

But yes, I'm running a game and have some ideas for a ship.

Well, if you miss anything, please let me know. Best is to reference directly to the books where I can find the items - cuts down on my time trying to find it. I'll send try and include the missing stuff asap.

I've been making a list. I do like that you have the option for putting in house rule items. There are a few posts hanging around with alternative ship items.

I dabbled a bit more with the code - so now the custom items work. In essence you can only set a name, SU and power, but the latter two can be size dependent. Maybe I'll do some more work on it, like being able to push these items into certain tables (such as e.g. a custom deflector shield going into the deflector shield table). I'll see.

I also added a bit of automatic option saving. The programme will now remember its last position and the tab you were last on and restore all of this upon programme start. (Note: not the loader, only the main window)

At the risk of raising a dead thread....

Do you mind if I take a crack at adding to this?
