    Post The roleplaying thing?

Could you tell me about these role playing forums please?
Do you pretend to be a real life charcter? Sorry it's just I've read all of the stuff about buying parts and things and I get completely confused.

Er... is this the old feared question
    "What are roleplaying games?"
or what is it exactly you want to know?

This forum is primarily for people who wish to discuss the RPG Star Trek from Last Unicorn.
In the "General Chat" area all kinds of topics are possible.

Sorry I didn't understand I thought you were all role playing as a real charcter?

    Unfortunatly no.

Last Unicorn Games produced the most recent tabletop Star Trek RPG rules, and were bought out by Wizards of the Coast late last year.

Since that time, the lisence for TrekRPG has been pulled and the games out of print. However in the UK, you may still be able to obtain copies of either TOS, TNG or DS9 rules and some of the sourcebooks...

However, the same games design team has now been hired by Decipher, the producers of the Star Trek CCG to produce the new Trek RPG system due for release later this year, as they now hold the lisence to produce the RPG.

Phew. Nearly a years rollercoaster ride of ups and downs abridged into 3 paragraphs.

No, Star Trek (the RPG) from Last Unicorn (the producer)(?) is a pen and paper RPG, but this forum is for people who want to exchange info, input, ideas.... concerning this RPG.

But as I have written before, the General Chat area is free for all topics.

Enterprise, roleplaying games allow you to take up a fictional character of your own making in scenarios led by one of the other players (the GM) as they are known.

It's something of a cross between prentending to be other people, like where you were a kid, and improvisational theater (for the other players). The GM comes up with an adventure and you all take part in the role of whatever character you've made.

It's a great way to blow a few hours, have fun, and be social...

The game systems are te sets of rules created by some company or other (like the Star Trek system from LUG) to add an element of fairness and stability to the play. Generally, you role dice to see if you succeeded at some task (jumping a ravine, shooting a bad guy, that sort of thing...)

So do the moderators here do a role playing thing here? It could be fun.

    No Enterprise,
We don't play here-- This is a forum for Gm's and Players to exchange ideas, information and homemade rules and stats for the Star Trek RPG. there is a board on this website called game Finder where you can find a online game.

No, all we do here is talk about it.

If the moderators et al have a facility for roleplaying online here, they've kept it to themselves and not let the rest of us schmucks in on it...

Actually, message board roleplaying can be kind of fun. I've done it for Star Wars and DnD, but it can be a bandwidth nightmare for a webmaster though.
