Thread: And we are back online again

The only issues I have with the new layout is the newness for one (I'll get over that). Number two - the "Post-it Board" icons for the new posts in thread, they are really hard for me to see the difference.

Whoohoo! It's nice to see the vB in effect. And I agree with Phoenix on both points The new template will take some time to get used to but I think we can adapt. Thanks for your hard work guys

Nice work, guys. I guess the new interface will also need some time to get used to from me as well, but it's nice to see the site is still evolving.

It should reduce the amount of scrolling viewers do, as the width of the message is not shorten by the user info all the way down the post. So does the drop down user links (email, PM, etc.) that use to be at the bottom of the post, except for the various messenging image/links.

Has a decision been reached by the team concerning avatars?

The general consensus of the Development Team is there will be avatars.

Has anyone else noticed when viewing older posts that the new smilies are the oposite of what was originally used? So rather than a thumbs up you see a thumbs down. Took some time for me to catch on to that one. . .I was rather confused why I was reading messages of kudos but seeing angry face smilies.

A new feature I have noticed is that you can add multiple attachments. PNG image attachments will show up as thumbnails images.

Hmm the new layout I can live with.. the colour scheme I can't - it's awful!

i am assuming this is the default basic version and someone is intending to tweak the stylesheet and template a little ? :S

I have not found any easy way to do it. So if it is possible, you have probably already got used to this new look at that time. But I will look more at it.

The idea is to first implement a fixed set of avatars. Star Fleet Insignia, Klingon emblem, ship silhouettes, Tree of Gondor, Eye of Mordor, etc. It is still however on a planning stage.

Being able to upload avatars will not be possible, but might be added at a later time.

Did some searching and found some really odd results. It looks as thumb up and thumb down have switched place. I will have to look into that as well. If anyone finds anything else than thumbs up/down that has changed, please point it out to me.

Should work for GIF as well. The JPEG converter is currently broken on the server, and it is at the bottom of the priority list. But when it is fixed, all current JPEG attachments will get a thumbnail.

That is the intention. Just let us agree on that it should not be done by me I might not be color blind, but it does not matter as I do not have much sense for matching and mixing colors

    Cool!

In the meantime, would it be possible to already allow for the linking of off-site avatars? That could be a test run for you as well to see how things turn up. Many of us have web space we use for hosting offsite avatars (and you might not need to allow the uploading of avatars, which can eat up a lot of resources if abused)

Hmm I don't know weather it's a delayed email problem, but i don't seem to be able to get email notification? Has anyone else had that problem? Otherwise pretty much everything else has survived the upgrade.

I think it's the bright blue and the pale pink - they clash horribly, if we could just have a similar colour scheme to the original (and ditch the blue) that would work fine for now Are there not any skins that can be downloaded and adapted? We don't want to go too far down the LCARS route because it's LOTR too, but maybe something quite neutral, and I do like the darker colours.. easier on the eyes

Those icons sound cool, but it's a shame users can't upload their own, I kind of think that IS THE POINT of an icon, and besides, many people here are interested in BOTH Startrek and LOTR, do we have assimilated hobits or put Pickard in Gandalfs hat for those people? I smell someone over-reacting to possible 'offensive' avatars, but really that should be a moderation issue!

... Oh and I forgot.. Can we fix the favicon to the old one, I liked that one

While i remember, i notice that though your intention was to create less scrolling, some of the signatures are a little .. broken.. because they were meant to look good in a narrower space.. I don't think that we should neccessarily limit the character length (as it's annoying if you want a bit of code) but as a forum policy could we have some decorum and try and have a 3-4 line limit on signatures.. I am fed up with scrolling down half a page length to get past some uber quote or graphic image which is TOO big.. It's also wasting bandwidth Several other forums I visit implement this and it should be common courtesy.. but then with all things forum, sometimes common courtesy needs to be .. moderated!

There ae three templates you can use. LCARS, LOTR, and Vbulletin(my choice until LCARS colors are fixed.

Hmm LCARS looks great on a TV screen.. Period It can often look terrible on your screen and hurts to read lets of text in it on the computer screen! It's great to influence the site, but please DO NOT use pure LCARS!
