Play aids & trying to get back into the swing of things

Once upon a time, long ago when I wasn't quite so cynical about the company producing the game and the future of the aforementioned game, I made a couple of PDF play aids. One of them was a single-sheet summary of the character generation process, and a draft of a detailed example of character generation.

Were any of these of any use to anybody? I'm considering dusting them off and finding them a home on my website, and perhaps adding to them at some point with web write-ups of my various starship designs, etc. Would anyone here find this of interest, or should I devote my energies elsewhere?

You already know my answers to this, Patrick.

Go for it. I've used your previous work...

Actually I am attemtping to do much the same. I ended up creating a more concise (and sensible) character generation system myself.

What I really need are aids for Ship Combat. So far a lot seem very lacking, or remind me fondly of SFB (sarcasm was dripping wasn't it?)

Bearing in mind that I haven't really touched this site since 2003, here's a page with the summary in a variety of formats.

One suggestion. When you make your character sheet, would you consider doing it landscape? I've been toying with the idea of making a good Trek sheet in landscape format, but have never gotten around to it.

These have been valuable around the gaming table.

Explaining character creation to new players can be a challenge.

    Thanks

Your play aids have been invaluable to me. Character creation is still difficult for me to get my head round at times and the sheets are very helpful in speeding the process up.
In fact, i'll admit that I used the text from your sheet, added some text of my own and created an LCARS style document which I use as a handout.
If you're taking requests, i'll second the push for a Starship Combat crib sheet of some kind. That would be real useful.

    Regards

Could you be a little more specific with what your problems are? I haven't run ship combat, but multiple readthroughs leave me feeling that it's pretty straight-forward. Perhaps I'm missing something, though.

I'll give it due consideration; I might try it both ways and see how it goes. I know that with Don's sheet, there's not as much need for it, but I don't suppose it could hurt.

Again, I'm glad I've been able to help.

I'll ask you the same question, then: What issues do you have with ship combat?

My main thought is that, while I like Don's sheet, a landscape sheet would save some real estate on the table while playing...

While I do find your Character Gen Quick sheet helpful when creating characters, I have noticed a small mistake. In the Get A Life (lol) Section step 6 should be before step 5, as you need to know your attribute mods before you calculate your reactions.

Other than that, it does make generation quicker and easier for Noob's to understand. I'm glad to have it. Anything that is of use to the Star Trek RPG community is ALWAYS a good thing.

Hmmmm. I'll have to look at the thing again and check my notes, but it certainly sounds like a mistake I'd make....

As always, I'm pleased you find it useful. One is grateful to be of service.

I made up these quick combat sheets a while ago - http://forum.trek-rpg.net/showthread.php?t=11032 - to aid the ship combat process, but I still need to make the ship combat card too. I did copy the text right out of the book as a player aid for the players but that's hardly my own work! Need to get all fired up again for when I run the game
