Phoenix, you don't have to picture it, you just have to dig up some old navy footage. When the C-130 was new, lo, those many decades ago, the navy considered using it to supply carriers at sea. They tested it on a carrier and were able to make several takeoffs and landings. But, even a Herk couldn't operate off a carrier deck and still carry enough payload to make it worth the effort, so the idea was dropped. Still, the film is amazing. At one point, the camera focused on the side of the Herkybird, where some wiseguy had chalked the line, "LOOK, MA, NO TAILHOOK".
