    TOS: Sulu (Jack-of-all-trades and swashbuckler)
TNG: La Forge (Average guy doing the best he could)
DS9: Worf (I always felt Worf got more interesting when he joined the DS9 cast)
Voyager: Chakotay (Great potential, mostly wasted, but still there)
Enterprise: Reed (Quiet, competent and dangerous)
Excalibur: Calhoun (He appeals to my inner 13-year old and reminds me of a friend's character for FASA from that era)

TOS: Pavel Chekov (Mr Space Cadet, and he did move on to Mr Bester )
TNG: Wesl... Nooooo!!!!! I hear you scream :Lol Ro Laren
    DS9: Mr Garak
VOY: Tough choice, but i gotta go with The Doc as well (Mr Joe)
ENT: Never really watched Ent, but from what i saw, Hoshi
Excalibur: Toss up between Zak Kebron/Si Cwan (Non Cannon it may be but the series of books is well worth a read, as are the SCE series, Cannon isn't the only trek)
And on the subject of the SCE, i'd cast a vote for Gomez.

    TOS:
Bones - I Like CAPT Sulu, and CAPT Scott. However, I have to give this vote to the good country physician.

    TNG:
La Forge - I shouldn't need to explain myself. However, I think this character was used to much for walldressing when the character had the depth to be a good main character. Which we have seen in those episodes which he was the main.

    DS9:
O'Brien - Sisko was a close second. But you have to give it to the NCO. The backbone of ANY force, military (quazi), or not. A family man, a man who loves history, and a man who brought a great tie in to the past.

    Voyager:
Paris - A man with many flaws and a troubled passed. However, a man with a much untapped potential. It is that potential that makes him such a great character.

    Enterprise:
Sato - OK, so she's asian. It helps but that's not it. She is the unwilling explorer.

    Excalibur:
Lefler - I liked her character in TNG, she had a very different way of thinking, and her rules were a nice set of personal moral codes.

Geordi: Shoulda got him a girl long ago. Wasn't Brahms too old to have kids anyway? Wait, never mind, considering the present, it shouldn't be a problem by then. Same with Beverly. The Universe Needs some More Picards!

Paris: the greater the flaws, the greater the strengths. But not always.

    For me, it's:

    TOS: Kirk, with Sulu second
DS9: Sisko, with Gul Dukat second
    TNG: Riker
VOY: you're kidding, right? I guess if I *had* to pick, it would be the Doc
ENT: Trip, with that Andorian dude (can't remember his name) second
and I never watched Excalibur, so I can't comment.

    The Combs Andorian is Shran.

It would be kinda boring to "watch" Excalibur, since it's just a series of novels.

TOS : Spock, Scott close second
    TNG : Picard
DS9 : Bashir, Ezri close second but for totally different reasons
    DS9 relaunch : Taran'atar
    VOY : Kes
ENT : Not seen enough of it, would say Hoshi
Excalibur : Only read the Gateway novel, so I can't judge easily.

    TOS: Bones
    TNG: Worf (in later seasons)
DS9: Bashir (Closely followed by most of the other cast members, except Jake and Mrs B. Sisko. I really liked the arms dealer character that Quark has to deal with in one of the eps)
    VOY: EMH
ENT: Reed (A Brit that aint the bad guy! Yay!!!)

    Cheers

    Hey my opinion

Without Star Trek: The Original Series there would be no other Trek Series or Movies regardless of shows rewriting the Series past.

    TOS: McCoy
    TNG: Data/Picard (tie)
    DS9: Garak
    VOY: Paris
    ENT: Phlox
EXC: unable to judge as I'm way behind on the novels.
