    How about having a half-human/half-Betazoid?
Maybe as captain trying to deal with the constant noises in his head. Gives the human experience and the alien one too, plus some comic relief.

As for the rest, they should be human or races which look like human(Budget constraints). Trill, Vulcan, Bajorans, anything which doesnt take too much makeup and an actor can get ready faster.

Why not have the federation go through a civil war, Starfleet Personnel and Federation citizens disenchanted with the "Socialist" paradise overthrow the legitimate gov't and seize power. They position a demagogue as ruler and they begin to go against all the principles of the Federation.

StarTrek: Redemption = great name, the redemption of the Federation and of the crew and maybe the whole quadrant?

    Thumbs up

I didn't mean half-human/half-Betazoid exclusively, actually any combination would do.

    Talking

I can't believe this thread is still alive. It's ancient...

Well, the project, entitled as Star Trek: Renaissance has kicked off well. We've already got the pilot and several scripts and are preparing for several tweaks, refinements, advertising etc. etc.

We plan to launch in Fall and release a new episode each week. So this are moving forwards, quite swiftly in fact.

And as it seem that this thread has gravitated towards discussing about the characters, here's the list of the main cast we decided to include:

    Captain Neil Cross
Human C.O. in his forties. A somber, serious character with painful mental scars from the Dominion War waged over two decades ago. His unique command style collides with his superiors constantly as he is willing to bend, or even break the rules to get the job done. Getting the command of his own is a learning experience for him, as is readjusting to a life with his wife Elris, who has grown distant to him over the difficult years.

    Commander Talora
Romulan first officer. Cool and calculative under pressure, providing a balancing force to the Captain. Though she pursues a career for being among the best, learning to play by the rules and conducts of a Starfleet vessel isn't an easy task.

    Lieutenant Commander Elris Lea
Bajoran chief medical officer. Quiet and introspective, a woman who has received a definite edge of pessimism over the post-war years. Her faith to the gods of her people, the Prophets is long gone. Emotionally hollow, she seeks to find meaning for her life, and perhaps eventually begin the process to heal the wounded marriage she has with Captain Cross.

    Lieutenant Erik Grey
Human chief engineer. Idealistic and always by-the-book, Grey tackles on the new assignment with enthusiasm. But his rigid moral framework is put under a heavy strain as the crew is forced to operate on areas of space where laws and regulations do not apply and ethics cannot be determined simply with black and white.

    Lieutenant J.G. Gril Dojar
Cardassian tactical officer. Carries the burden of his people, the deeds they did years ago. Always tries to redeem himself in the face of the crew with hard work and by constantly pushing to the limits. Feeling as a stranger, he keeps his inner conflicts by himself.

    Jennifer Quinlan
Human "strategic advisor". A rebellious hothead with a grinding history with Starfleet. Brought aboard to give advice in the dealings with the "darker side" of the Alpha Quadrant. Her contacts with the underworld prove to be a valuable help to the crew but her attitude brings her at odds with the crew from time to time.

    Y'Lan
A mysterious non-humanoid alien being from a species known as Q'Tami. Secretive and seclusive, partly because of his totally strange appearance alienates him from the rest of the crew. Observation of humanity and studying these more "primitive races" is his main objective during his stay. In exchange, he proves to be an integral part of the science staff with his extraordinary knowledge and insight.

You can check more information from the public forum we have put up:
    http://pub10.ezboard.com/ftrektechfrm17

As you can see there's nothing much in there as nothing is 100% locked down and we prefer to keep unfinished business behind closed doors and refine until we're satisfied. But you can found a sort of mini-FAQ about the project as well as some general guidelines if you want to actually pitch in a script for the series in the future (though Season One is fully booked now and there isn't official series bible available yet).

You are stretching a bit. None of the characters have really resemblance to Babylon 5. Even Y'Lan, though that snippet of text might give you a Vorlonesque impression.

Though his people are shrouded in mystery, Y'Lan is not some überbeing pulling the strings. He is a mortal creature, trying to cope up with the totally alien environment he is brought into. It is a whole new culture, different way of life for him. Even the most simple human actions and emotions seem puzzling to him.

And the guy who developed most of Dojar's personality and history hasn't even seen one episode of B5, so if there are G'Kar parallels, they're purely coincidential. And it's my job to make sure that our series doesn't rip others off.

BTW, Quinlan doesn't really that much bear resemblance to Garibaldi. If you really want to search for a comparison for her, she's closest to Beka Valentine in Andromeda, although more rebellious, stubborn and doesn't pull any punches when it comes to dealing with anyone.
