    Romulan War

    Okay, here's my idea.

I am looking to set an NX-era game during the run up to, and through the Romulan War. What I don't have is access to a whole heap of canon history. I hoep you guys can come up with the goods. What I need is any history or comments made during the various seasons (DS9, VOY, TNG, TOS, and even ENT!). The one non-canon piece of 'history' I will be using is from my battered old Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology 1980-2188 (Stan & Fred Goldstein, Phoebus Publishing) which tells us that in 2105, the first official casulaty of the war was the USS Patton, a Marshall-Class destroyer, although there had been several incidents prior to this which are later found to be acts of Romulan aggression. According to this source, the War ends in 2109.

So, any help with who said what, and when in the history of the conflict it relates to, please post!

    Cheers

Na, sorry that is obviously outdated. According to newer sources the Romulan War lauchend in 2156, when the Endeavor met an unknown vessel in the Cheron system which was bombarding the surface of Cheron IV ( still unknown why ). It was attacked by that vessel and only barely escaped. Since the Romulan only used more or less one-way warp drives ( magnetic bottle drives ) they were able to reach a starbase in time. Several more battles took place and while no other species took part in combat, all of the founding members supported Starfleet with advice and technological aid. The decisive battle again took place in the Cheron system.

Starfleet lured the major part of the Romulans into the system and then Starfleet reinforcements arrived. Due to the less developed warp drive of the Romulans they were not able to flee that overwhelming power and were destroyed. Peace Talks started afterwards, via subspace communication, and the Neutral Zone was established. That what I know about the Romulan Earth War.

    Hi Evan,

Thanks for the reply. What I do need is where you heard this. I am assuming one of the series.

I want to try and sift through all the info, as there will no doubt be conflicting data from various episodes from the various series.

    Cheers

The magnetic bottle concept is to help explain round a canonical odity: that in TOS Scotty claimed the Romulan ship he viewed had 'simple impulse power'. Some take it to imply they only had fusion reactors, and some that it implied they had no warp drive at all! One theory, the magnetic bottle, is a precursor technology to the quantum singulaity core drive.. and conventional warp Technology was gained from interaction with the Klingons..

Either with poor warp drive, or none the Romulans were defeated by the pre-federation, and the attack helped to cement the Federation, who maintained an extensive boundary; the Neutral zone; to both help maintain the treaty ad ward off further attacks.. obviously in the time between TOS and TNG the Romulans advanced quite allot!

In Enterprise, the Romulans were shown to have primitive cloaking devices (which didn't take much effort to detect), and had lain a cloaked minefield around their protected system, how expansive their empire is in the Enterprise Era is up to debate, as no other species even knows what they look like, let alone how much teritory they hold!

According to the copy of "The Star Trek Encyclopedia" that I have which is some what out dated (Published 1994) the Romulan War ended around 2160 when the Netral Zone was established.

Otherwise I would have to agree entirely with Evans assessment, as most of his comments are verified by the short paragraph in the "Encyclopedia". From what I can tell there is not a lot of cannon info about the Romulan War, as with everthing about the romulans, it's secrets remain untold.

Good luck with your idea! Sound like it could be an interesting time period to set a game in. Never knowing where the Romulans will strike next.
