    Alternate Starship Combat System

    Hey Gang,

I've attached an alternate version of starship combat I've developed for the FASA rpg. I think it makes combat faster, less complicated, and closer to how combat was on TOS. It's not complete, though. I need to make combat examples, and it makes references to "Boarding Actions', which is in the works. I'd appreciate any comments, input, or scathing ridicule.

    Thanks
    TM Joe

3/5/06 Hey again, I've finished the last draft (well, I hopw it's the last draft) and I've updated the file on this post. I've included examples and added quite a few things- it's twice as big now!! Anyways, enjoy!

You're welcome! Please let me know if you come across any problems or questions. Play testing was kinda limited for me, so undoubtably I overlooked something

    Hey gang!

I just wanted to remind folks that this file I attached is only a draft, and has quite a bit more to go. I received an e-mail from someone asking who thought they were missing a piece of the file and wanted me mail the rest of it. The truth is that it may seem incomplete because it is.

    Thanks!

Huh... Quite relative system of ship combat... I tried making a new game for
off. trek ship combat, but I haven't finished it yet.

    Well, pretty good.

Most of it is straightforward, but there's no frame of reference. I need more of the rules in order to comment.

    Each turn goes like this:

Phase 1: Movement. Depending on what speed you've allocated the ship to,
move the ship that numbr of inchs on the gameboard.

The speeds are always referred to as: 1/8th, 1 quarter, 1/2th, 3/4th, and full.

Phase 2: firing. choose an opponent to attack and choose the weapons to
fire at them, rolling 1/1-2/1-3/1-4/1-5/1-6 depending on ewhat range

    bracket the enemys i n.

Range explanation: Number of inches/another number of inches/another
and all the way to 1-6 on a die roll (to hit an enemy)
Phase 3: Damage phase. the player of the damaged ship rolls on a chart to
    figure out intrnals.

    End of player's turn.
How do the TSS game rules rules look to you at the moment ?

    A few Questions:

There's no hex map? ranges are measured like in Warhammer?
How is damaged assessed? Shielding is unclear.
Do you have a file with all the details? Maybe you could post it as an attachment.
    Maybe a sample combat?

    >A few Questions:

    >There's no hex map? ranges are measured like in Warhammer?

Spaces are measured in inches and there's no hexmap .

    >How is damaged assessed? Shielding is unclear.

X the number of integrity points lost /per X damage inflicted.

This reflects the minimum damage increment.

    >Do you have a file with all the details? Maybe you could post it as an attachment.
    >Maybe a sample combat?

Probably, aftr I get some thngs done.

There are several rule sets under the Phase II moniker that also might help in regards to battle damage and how to distribute it:

    http://www.sporadic-enterprises.net/...ity-Tables.pdf

I have used these myself and have found them to make the game far more entertaining to say the least. The image of internal fires, explosive decompression and such other fun things make the game much more fun.

The Calamity Tables work well with the Phase II Rule Book:
