I would think that a game that is loved never dies as long as the fans back it up. Look at alternity by TSR, the game is long dead, but with all the net books and fan material you could keep going for years.
I don't plan on buying any new system Trek game that comes down the pipe, right now I plan to take the materials from my Fasa and Coda sets and use it to play the game with SFB D6 when it is released. Decipher has dissapointed me and If they ever get back into the RPG field again I will be very weary.
All I know is, whomever gets the license next had best print the Klingons book right after the main rules, since we have been waiting since ICON for this
