    A query...

On TOS we had Spock, the first Vulcan in Starfleet.

In TNG we had Data, the first android in Starfleet and Worf the first Klingon.

DS9 had the first Ferengi (Nog), the first Changeling (Odo, sort of) and the first Genetically Enhanced Human (Bashir)

Voyager gave us the first Hologram and BORG.

What other first would be fun or interesting for an on going game?

    Ideas? Thoughts?

I dismiss Peter David's first Mugato on the grounds it is silly.

In my game I have done the first Gorn, but that almost seems pedestrian after Holograms and BORG.

Ah...Romulan, I think it's about time we got one, not some person pretending to be a Vulcan but a full blown, kill them all, sneaky Romulan.

I think it would have been a better idea for ENT to have had the first Andorian. I mean, we knew all about Vulcans (and ENT went and screwed about with them, along with everything else), so why not another race?
I think the first Tellarite would be cool too. (The first Alpha Centauri would be good too)

So? I am a sucker for the original races....sue me!

    :-)

    Cheers

Ineti and I seem to be on a similar wavelength, though I don't think I'd go for a Pakled. In a recent episode, Hidden Frontier had a Horta lieutenant; he had to communicate through a telepathic interpreter. I like the idea of a Binar pair, as well as Gorn (but then I've always been a sucker for those guys)

Other thoughts - Tholian and Suliban.

OH, so many nice choices (Mugato? Wouldn't that be like haveing a chimp in the navy?).

I just had one; given 1st season TNG's habit of '20th Century Bashing'; Starfleet's First 20th Century Human!

First Cardassian, anyone? (Gives writers/narrators chances to look at the lingering distrust toward the 'Cardies' after both wars with them.)

First Species 8472; oh wait, you have that one. (Wesley at the Riker/Troi wedding. Remember, Wes went on to explore other planes. And quit SF. So he came back and rejoined the Fleet? Nope, he's a spy.)

    First Gomtu ?

There are some rich pickings from the wierder races seen in the Federation council, such as Saurians, Aamazerites etc..

You could have the first Jem hadar, Vorta or Founder! Could be very interresting! First Q (though one spent a week on Voyager hehe).

First Aldean could be interesting, especially after some rediscovery of their roots!

First Tamarian (extreme challenge for the player!)

First Nausican - it could be a really bad idea!

First Xindi (it is not established when and if they join the Federation) - there's 5 to chose from!

There's a host of Delta Quadrant races which could be woven in there too. First Kazon, Ocompa, Vidiian (in a post Phage era) Monean, Krenim, Hierarchy, vaduar, Voth (now that's power gaming, but it comes with an explanation!), Hirogen, Devore.. Ok now I am getting carried away

From a more historical era, the First Batazed would be extremelly interesting, especially with most of the crew not aware of their abilities, and the sociological ramifications of them dealing with a full telepath in their presence! Bolians would also be a good choice too.

The one advantage of choosing a rarelly seen race is at least you have allot of leway in their culture, especially if they only ever had one episode!

Kidding! Kidding, squids! All the chimps go to the army; I had a whole friggin' squad of 'em.

I rather like the idea of the 20th-21st century human in the Next Generation givinga injection of 'reality' to TNG suppositions about the late 20th & 21st. Gibson knows several centuries of historians arguing about the era will have permutated History taught in the 24th into something nigh-unrecognizable as the 20th by teachers of the era. That and the TNG bunch were just too damned smug for my tastes. The kinda of people who you'd think were nice initally, but hada face you would want to hit after several days of thier rather rotten attitudes
A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

It's not strictly true that there hasn't been a 20th century human in Starfleet. Dr. Gillian Taylor of the Cetacious institute (ST IV: The Voyage home) Was posted to a Starfleet science vessel. While she might not have joined Starfleeet she would certainly have worked allong side them in one of their civilian divisions (A Bit like Dr. Carol Marcus did). So not quite a first, but certainly interesting non the less!

I had Gillian in mind when I wrote that; I wonder what her life would be like after being introduced forcibly into 23-24th century life?

I've tossed around Antican and Chameloid Starfleet officers as possible characters in the Play By Post Game being tossed around elsewhere on the Board.

I'm not sure how to characterize another idea I had: First person from an alternate reality. This could be the Mirror Universe, another reality (Farscape, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Firefly), or plane of existance (a Q, or something really, REALLY strange).

Although there would be alot of, "In my world, we would just trust a mystical energy force to guide our torpedos, not your fancy targeting array!"
