    BSG: Marines' rifles

Does anyone know what type of rifle the Colonial Marines use on Battlestar Galactica (new series)?

They look like actual weapons, not fictional weapons like the Viper Pilots' sidearms. But I'm not familiar w/ this model. It doesn't look like any assault rifle used by any modern national military I can think of. Could be some kind of bullpup design but I can't make out any magazine.

    Thoughts? Theories?

They look to be the Fabrique Nationale P-90 with a suppressor and optics to change the silhouette in the episode where they arrest the president (Season 1.) Don't have any screencaps I've found of the last couple of eps, so I can say on the rifles they have on Kobol -- probably some gussied up AR variant.

The rifle looks to be, though it was hard to get a good look, the Beretta Cx4 Storm in 9mm. they've also done a lot of clip-stuff-on work in the show. Starbuck's got a M900 Calico in the ep where they raid the prison ship. Also have seen a coupld of modified MP5s.

Their handguns are Fabrique Nationale FiveSeven's -- the guns that use the same 5.7mm ammo as the P90, but with a fake gyrojet-like launcher under the barrel.

Thanks for the replies. The Viper pilots' handguns do look like real pistols w/ some added non-functioning attachments on them to make them look more sci-fi. Not the first time that's been done, of course. Lucas did that in Star Wars w/ the stormtrooper rifles modified from British Sterling SMGs & Solo's modified broomhandle Mauser.

The Marines' rifles may indeed actually be 9mm carbines.
